I was fortunate enough to be brought up by my great-grandmother, who was the best southern cook ever!! I was always in the kitchen with her and as a result I learned many things. She was raised on a farm and by the age of 10 was cooking three meals a day for a house full of hard working, hungry men that expected a filling meal on the table before the day began, during the middle of the day and at night before turning in and starting it all over again the next morning. She did all of this on a wood stove in a, needless to say, un-airconditioned house.
I married my childhood sweetheat at age 18. It was during Viet Nam and we moved to Wiesbaden, Germany a month later. Although we had very little money, we traveled as much as we could and experienced cuisine from many different countries. I guess you could say that is where I developed an appreciation for all kinds of food.
When we returned to the good ole' USA my husband started college and I worked. After his graduation we started a family and were blessed with three healthy and very active little boys. Unlike my grandmother, it was all I could do to prepare even one home cooked meal a day. Thank goodness for boxed cereal and frozen foods. Since I had very little time, to learn anything but what I already knew in the way of cooking, I brought them up eating what Grandma had taught me. Thank goodness, I didn't have to gather eggs from the hen house or ring a chickens neck in order to put food on the table as Grandma used to do. Since the nest had been empty I have been buying cooking magazines and cook books like crazy! I have even taken some classes at one of our local cooking schools.
I guess my favorite cuisine is French, Greek and German. I am excited to be a part of this site and look forward to sharing and learning from all of you.
