Mostly vegetarian home cook, into food science (Alton Brown rocks!), technique, Mario Batali, Iron Chef. BUT: silly ranting on tv about brocoli being 'beautiful', talking to my food, tv close-ups of pouring sugar on strawberries, 'Giada at Home", self-absorbed, self-indulgent foodies gorging themselves on delicacies while gobs of folks are starving - aaargh! Food fantasy: total foodie-sm + total atruism re: world hunger issues - is there an answer to this dilemma on ask.com?? :)

My grandma. In the 80's, she was experimenting with tofu, making almond milk in her home blender, asking me to try new stuff - she was 'da bomb! My dad - he was in the kitchen making all sorts of yummy soups from scratch during a decade when it was all about the box. Germany! Some childhood years there taught me that the rice krispies box wasn't the center of the food galaxy - I ate mayo on fries at age 12 (hated it), black bread with spreadable cheese, homemade vichy - all that! yum! Foreign friends at school - India, Indonesia, yummy homemade curries, taking sushie classes together, strange experimental gluten-free 'things', the wonders of goat cheese. Waitressing: health food chili, learning to make Moussaka while being chased around in the back kitchen, evil chefs shouting from the hinterlands into the dining room, mandatory wine tastings. Kosher gourmand friends and our journey along the path of cheeseless burgers!
