Accademia Barilla's Gastronomic Library

For those of you who are interested in Italian Food Culture, I have just discovered a rich source of information. Accademia Barilla, which is sponsored by the Italian pasta giant, has a website dedicated to telling the world about authentic Italian food.

There's lots to explore and enjoy on that site, but my personal favorite section is called the Gastronomic Library. The Library houses over *8,500* titles, dating back to the 16th century. The collection is divided into categories that range from pasta, vegetables, sweets, bread, game, fruit, fish, cheese and wine.

It's incredbile! I have finally found a (virtual) copy, for example, of Il Cuoco Galante, a book that I had been unable to locate Stateside for love or money!

Definitely worth a visit!

Thanks for pointing this out Frank. I'm checking out the site now. Very valuable! I'm going to be taking my family to Italy in July. If you have any suggestions for must sees or must eats...let me know!

John, Italy is a huge place. We travelled by train from Paris into Rome, Milano, and then went down into Sicily. If you are going to be in Sicily, I can ask my son where he suggests eating as he was in the US Navy there for a couple of years. We ate at a nice little place by the Trevi Fountain in Rome, but I can't recall the name of the place, if I do I'll let you know (they had dandelion greens which is awesome because I love them and prawns). Do you speak any Italian? It helps!
