So what are you guys having for Christmas?
My Mom is planning an all-American Xmas dinner this year: baked ham, macaroni and cheese... not sure what else. On the Eve we will go Italian--ravioli, fried mixed seafood, etc. although not the full seven fishes, probably...
How about you?

I just got back from reserving my fish at the Pescheria (though I do have a few frozen things, too).
Antipasto: Capesante (Sea Scallops) Gratinate on the half shell
Soup: New England Clam Chowder
Salad: Octopus Salad
Main: Cefalo al Forno with Potatoes
Dessert: The thinnest slice of Limoncello Cheesecake
Still looking for something to make with smoked salmon and shrimp as antipasto or sides. I also have some frozen "bianchetti" which I could make into a spicy spread (alla Calabrese) or serve with pasta.
I wanted to make a white shrimp & zucchini lasagna but my hubby is dead against it.
What´s on your menu, Frank?
Can´t wait to read what everyone else is making!
Ciao,
Laura
Laura,
Sounds like a fabulous meal!
I remember those bianchetti--weren't they those tiny baby fish? I used to love them fried...
And the shrimp and zucchini lasagna also sounds wonderful... who could object it?
Our Christmas Eve and day is very traditional.
Mixed fried fish (fritto misto) calamari, smelt, shrimp, baccala.
Zuppa di Pesce and Cozze fra diavolo (fish soup, mussels cooked in a light tomato sauce.
Linguine con salsa di acciughe (linguine with anchovy sauce)
Carciofi alla Giudia (fried artichokes)
Christmas day we have homemade ravioli.
For dessert a selection of homemade Italian biscotti, some we only make at Christmas. Made by many different family members.
There will be 30 people and anyone else that happens to stop by. This is the same meal we have had forever. Everyone pitches in during the entire day to prepare it with friends dropping by and that is the best part of the day.
I hope you have a great Christmas.
Regards,
Patricia
The McNamara clan will be making homemade ravioli's again this year. We make up a triple batch of pasta dough and will fill with spicey sausage/ricotta, cheese/spinach, or surprise vegetarian filling. Last year the veggie option was mashed garlicky potatoes/smoked mozz. They were such a hit that we'll likely try to replicate. There's never a set recipe for the fillings....it is "using the Force" as a guide. They've always been fabulous because the main ingredient is unadulterated love from having the whole famdamily helping to assemble them. We freeze half to enjoy for New Years dinner. Considering we are primarily of Irish heritage, with only one Italian branch, its amusing that this has been our Christmas Day dinner for the past 28 years and counting. About 9 years ago I opted to BUY raviolis from a pricey pasta shop. There was such a mutinous scene made by our three adult kids that they all vowed to ensure THAT would never happen again!! Three of the five McNamara's deploying to Iraq immediately following Christmas....These ravioli's should be some of the best ever.
Merry Christmas!!
My two daughters cooked Christmas dinner this year... And they did a pretty good job, They're not into cooking like I am, but did a very nice job. We had a very juicy Turkey, and all the usual Christmas side dishes.
We "strayed" from our traditional Italian dinner this year -- and there was a big 'Boo" from the peanut gallery. It was the Matriarch of our family who made the decision, so we had a prime rib roast with sauted mushrooms and onions, creamed spinach and huge baked potatoes with sour cream and chives.
It was delicious and an easy meal to prepare especially after all the excitement of opening presents with 3 boys, grandparents and the rest of the extended family.
A great way to have a stress free Christmas holiday dinner and celebration with family.
I think we are going to have a more traditional Italian meal for our New Year's Eve dinner.
Happy Holidays to All!
Joanne
