Kjeeping Track of Ingredients

Sometimes when you're tossing a lot of different ingredients into your mixing bowl, it's easy to lose track of what you've added. Simple place each ingredient in a different part of the bowl. That way everything you add can be seen and counted.

I actually take it one step further and put everything in separate bowls. I have a set of pinch bowls for the spices.

I incorporate both techniques: I get my mise together first, each ingredient separate and positioned in the order I will use them, then, depending on the recipe, I'll mix the wet , then the dry, then combine all ingredients. Following this discipline allows me to answer questions, the phone, deal with emergency issues, etc., without then coming back to the task at hand and having to say "Now, where was I?". I have several photos posted of the 'bowl drop' element that you posted, Pat. Great suggestion. Two things I try to do: keep the kitchen and preparea clean and remain as organized as possible while executing.

I always use a seperate prep dish for each ingredient. I find it easier to check to make sure you have everything. (The older I get, the more I am double checking myself) :-)

Amos I am sure we can all learn for your professional skills! I simply place all ingredients on one side of the worktop and then move them on the other side when I am done. I do have a very spacious kitchen though
