.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECurry%20and%20Fra%20Diavolo%20Chickens%20with%20Grilled%20Tomatoes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20been%20remiss%20with%20recounting%20the%20rest%20of%20our%20London%20escapades,%20what%20with%20distractions%20like%20Eataly%20and%20Coney%20Island%20diverting%20me%20too%20much%E2%80%93but%20no%20more!%20Our%20first%20day%20in%20London%20culminated%20with%20a%20visit%20to%20Asda,%20otherwise%20known%20as%20Walmart%20in%20the%20U.K.,%20to%20pick%20up%20some%20provisions%20for%20our%20hosts%20and%20ourselves%20for%20dinner.%20I%20was%20pretty%20insistent%20on%20making%20a%20visit%20to%20at%20least%20one%20grocery%20store%20while%20we%20were%20in%20England%20(yes,%20I%E2%80%99m%20a%20nerd%E2%80%93carry%20on!)%20and%20so%20why%20not%20a%20visit%20to%20the%20Big%20Bad%20Blue%20Behemoth%E2%80%99s%20English%20cousin?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EASDA:%20the%20English%20Wal-Mart%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20isn%E2%80%99t%20C%E2%80%99s%20primary%20grocery%20store%E2%80%93as%20we%20walked%20through%20the%20car%20park%20she%20mentioned%20that%20the%20store%20isn%E2%80%99t%20that%20great%20and%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20very%20big,%20and%20subsequently%20was%20floored%20when%20she%20saw%20it%20for%20the%20first%20time%20post-renovation.%20The%20addition%20of%20a%20loft-like%20second%20floor%20seems%20to%20have%20opened%20up%20the%20place%20a%20bit,%20and%20the%20produce%20section%20resembled%20more%20of%20Target%E2%80%99s%20PFresh%20rather%20than%20what%20you%E2%80%99d%20normally%20see%20at%20a%20Walmart%20here%20in%20the%20States%20(though,%20in%20all%20honesty,%20my%20experience%20with%20Walmart%20Supercenters%20is%20limited%20and%20only%20based%20off%20of%20a%20few%20visits%20to%20random%20ones%20over%20the%20years).%20We%20didn%E2%80%99t%20spend%20a%20crazy%20amount%20of%20money,%20though,%20and%20bought%20some%20pretty%20sweet%20produce%E2%80%93easily%20on%20par%20with%20what%20we%E2%80%99d%20find%20at%20Fairway%20with%20regards%20to%20selection.%20The%20only%20complaint%20I%20had%20was%20that%20my%20desire%20to%20replace%20our%20heavy%20Tesco%20reusable%20shopping%20back%20with%20one%20from%20Asda%20was%20all%20for%20naught%20because%20the%20bags%20were%20very%20flimsy%20indeed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EProduce%20section%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnough%20with%20the%20shop%20talk%20and%20onto%20the%20food%20already!%20Michael%20spatchcocked%20the%20two%20chickens%20we%20purchased%20(in%20part%20to%20show%20off,%20I%20think,%20while%20also%20to%20show%20C%20how%20it%E2%80%99s%20done)%20while%20C%20fixed%20a%20pitcher%20of%20Pimm%E2%80%99s;%20I%20looked%20at%20the%20variety%20of%20green%20onions%20(both%20spring%20and%20scallion)%20that%20I%20had%20at%20my%20disposal%20and%20figured%20out%20which%20would%20go%20into%20my%20onion%20pistou%20that%20I%20would%20bring%20together%20using%20a%20food%20processor.%20You%20see,%20the%20food%20processor%20is%20the%20one%20basic%20appliance%20we%20don%E2%80%99t%20own,%20mainly%20for%20space%20considerations.%20The%20immersion%20and%20regular%20blenders%20do%20well%20in%20making%20sauces%20and%20dips%20(most%20of%20the%20time),%20and%20Michael%20received%20a%20simple%20blade%20coffee%20grinder%20so%20he%20could%20process%20whole%20spices.%20The%20one%20time%20a%20FP%20would%20be%20useful,%20however,%20is%20making%20pestos%20and%20pistous%20and%20chimichurris:%20while%20certainly%20far%20from%20impossible,%20it%20can%20take%20a%20little%20extra%20olive%20oil%20to%20get%20the%20sauce%20to%20the%20right%20consistency%20because%20the%20leaves%20all%20stick%20to%20the%20walls%20of%20the%20blender.%20It%E2%80%99s%20not%20enough%20of%20a%20reason%20to%20break%20down%20and%20get%20one%20for%20our%20kitchen,%20but%20I%20will%20take%20advantage%20of%20the%20use%20of%20one%20if%20I%E2%80%99m%20cooking%20in%20another%20kitchen.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMichael%20working%20the%20barbecue%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20chickens%20would%20end%20up%20on%20the%20barbecue%20outside,%20so%20Michael%20kept%20it%20pretty%20simple%E2%80%93one%20was%20a%20curry-inspired%20flavor%20using%20spices%20from%20C&S%E2%80%99s%20kitchen,%20while%20the%20other%20was%20his%20favorite%20Fra%20Diavalo%20using%20Dijon%20and%20stone%20ground%20mustard%20and%20some%20hot%20pepper%20flakes.%20The%20one%20thing%20that%20we%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20that%20would%20have%20been%20useful%20was%20a%20meat%20thermometer,%20but%20Michael%E2%80%99s%20vigilance%20(and%20the%20flat%20surface%20area%20of%20the%20birds)%20ensured%20that%20they%20were%20cooked%20through%20but%20still%20juicy.%20But%20it%20stands%20as%20a%20reminder:%20if%20you%20think%20you%E2%80%99re%20going%20to%20be%20cooking%20anywhere%20and%20meat%20will%20be%20involved,%20bring%20your%20meat%20thermometer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpring%20Onion%20and%20Tomato%20Pistou%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20used%20just%20a%20little%20too%20much%20olive%20oil%20for%20the%20pistou%20(it%20was%20slightly%20runnier%20than%20I%20like%20it)%20but%20for%20creating%20a%20recipe%20on%20the%20fly,%20it%20was%20pretty%20darn%20good.%20This%20was%20my%20first%20introduction%20to%20Grana%20Padano%20and%20I%E2%80%99ve%20been%20a%20fan%20of%20it%20ever%20since%E2%80%93it%E2%80%99s%20similar%20in%20flavor%20to%20Parmigiano-Reggiano%20but%20it%20tends%20to%20be%20a%20little%20less%20expensive.%20It%20was%20a%20cinch%20to%20whip%20up%20since%20we%20used%20fresh%20pasta%20and%20despite%20the%20large%20amount%20of%20food,%20the%20leftovers%20weren%E2%80%99t%20massive%E2%80%93when%20C%20kept%20saying%20in%20Asda%20that%20S%20can%20put%20away%20the%20food,%20she%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20kidding!%20Even%20though%20we%20were%20all%20stuffed%E2%80%93too%20much%20to%20do%20anything%20save%20for%20watching%20delightfully%20trashy%20British%20television%E2%80%93S%20did%20sneak%20out%20now%20and%20again%20to%20pick%20at%20the%20chicken%20carcasses,%20something%20that%20completely%20made%20Michael%E2%80%99s%20day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20food%20processor,%20add%20scallions,%20onion%20stalks%20and%20tomatoes%20into%20a%20food%20processor%20and%20pulse%20until%20combined.%20Add%20cheese%20salt%20and%20pepper%20(be%20gentle%20with%20salt%E2%80%93add%20as%20you%20need%20it)%20and%20pulse%20again%20to%20combine,%20then%20set%20it%20to%20run%20so%20you%20can%20drizzle%20the%20olive%20oil%20into%20the%20processor,%20taking%20breaks%20to%20check%20seasoning%20and%20consistency,%20and%20process%20until%20smooth.%20Add%20to%20freshly%20cooked%20pasta%20(fresh%20pasta%20is%20best)%20and%20toss%20to%20coat.%20Serve%20immediately%20with%20more%20cheese%20if%20desired.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
