Receta 4 Simple Steps to Create Awesome Tasting Oatmeal
While reading the college blogs over the past few weeks I noticed oatmeal was a hot topic.
That’s a whole lotta oatmeal and a bunch of reasons to eat it!
I don’t know all the benefits oatmeal provides to our bodies but I do know that when I eat it for breakfast on weekdays, I’m less likely to go on a mid-morning snacking binge. I also know that for me it makes for an awesome first meal on weekends when I’m planning to head out for a run or do any kind of morning workout. It's like a high octane fuel for my body.
I’m an instant oatmeal type of guy because it’s fast and I buy the plain regular stuff because I like to doctor it up myself. One of my favorite ways to do that is to add apple juice, ground cinnamon and raisins to it.
Here’s the 4 steps I take in the morning to make my Apple Cinnamon and Raisin Oatmeal.
Pour 1 packet of instant regular oatmeal into a bowl.
- Add 2 tbsp of apple juice. Stir until liquid is absorbed by oatmeal
- Add a spoonful of brown sugar, a couple pinches of ground cinnamon and a handful of raisins
Add a ¼ cup of boiling water to bowl and stir until oatmeal thickens.
On occasion I’ll also top ‘er off with a few sliced apples and almonds.
If you’re going to prepare this oatmeal concoction to fuel your body in the morning, you’ll need ground cinnamon. There is a way to get it on the cheap if your a student on a tight budget.
Team up with friends, roomies or housemates before you head to the grocery store. Buy a bag of ground cinnamon and split the cost and the cinnamon between you. You can get a set of empty spice containers for $1 at the Dollar store. Hmmm...that Dollar store name is really starting to make a lot of sense. Anyway, a little ground cinnamon goes a long way so there will be more than enough for the two, three or even four of you to share.
What breakfast fuels you in the morning?
Song Suggestion: For me, oatmeal is a morning food which makes me think of morning songs I love. One of those songs is Honor and Harmony by G.Love and Special Sauce. It has all the right lyrics and a nice groove for waking up in the morning.
