Receta A BAKER’S DOZEN – 13 FAVORITE COOKING TIPS
Welcome to September and as we have an “extra” Saturday this month I thought that I’d switch one of our “Sweet Taste of Saturday” recipe posts for a list of some of my favorite cooking tips. I posted tips once before and had fun sharing them with y’all. Hope you find one or two that you could use and please add your own favorites at the comments below!
Salt: add to flour before adding flour to gravies when thickening – it will prevent lumping.
Salt: add a pinch to water before boiling eggs to prevent shells from cracking.
Tenderizing: Add tomatoes to roasts as their natural acids will tenderize the meat.
Tenderizing/Thawing: When defrosting meat from the freezer pour vinegar over the meat to speed thawing and tenderize at the same time.
Substitute pickle juice for vinegar in salad dressings and other recipes.
A shallow pan of water in the oven while baking bread will keep crusts from getting too hard.
A shallow pan of water in the oven while baking cheesecake will help keep the top from cracking.
Use your slow cooker as a warmer and server.
Use your Panini press to bake cookies.
For flavored whipped cream add 2 tablespoons of flavored jello and beat on slow until blended.
For fluffy mashed potatoes add 1 teaspoon of baking powder.
To keep salad crisp in a large serving bowl first place an upside down saucer in the bottom before adding salad. Moister will gather under the saucer and keep salad fresher.
For just a few drops of citrus juice pierce the fruit with a fork. Squeeze as needed and seal the holes with margarine or butter.
