%20and%20made%20a%20lovely%20winter%20nest.%20Oh%20how%20warm%20they%20must%20have%20been%20all%20winter%20long.%20They%20had%20hauled%20in%20all%20manner%20of%20comfy%20leaves%20and%20twigs%20and%20had%20even%20cached%20a%20nice%20supply%20of%20acorns%20and%20bird%20seed.%20Imagine%20my%20surprise%20(and%20theirs)%20when%20I%20opened%20the%20shed%20in%20the%20spring%20and%20found%20them%20all%20nestled%20in%20warm%20and%20dry%20in%20the%20back%20corner.%20A%20whole%20little%20family.%20Hmmm...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20moved%20out%20as%20soon%20as%20the%20babies%20went%20off%20to%20college%20(or%20wherever%20squirrel%20babies%20go%20in%20the%20spring).%20All%20summer%20long%20TBHITW%20would%20say,%20%22I've%20got%20to%20fix%20that%20roof%22..%20well,%20he%20never%20got%20around%20to%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20past%20weekend%20the%2016%20year%20old%20kidadult%20decided%20to%20tear%20off%20the%20old%20roof%20and%20put%20on%20a%20new%20one.%20He%20measured%20and%20thought%20and%20measured%20some%20more.%20On%20Saturday%20morning%20he%20asked%20me%20to%20drive%20him%20to%20The%20Home%20Depot.%20He%20had%20a%20list%20of%20roofing%20supplies%20he%20needed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20bought%20plywood%20and%20tar%20paper%20and%20shingles%20and%20nails.%20He%20even%20bought%20some%20chicken%20wire%20to%20lay%20down%20so%20those%20clever%20squirrels%20couldn't%20eat%20through%20the%20roof%20again.%20I%20don't%20know%20how%20he%20knew%20how%20to%20do%20all%20this.%20Maybe%20he%20is%20more%20clever%20than%20a%20squirrel?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20worked%20all%20day%20Saturday%20and%20into%20Sunday.%20He%20tore%20off%20the%20old%20roof%20and%20nailed%20down%20new%20wood.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20got%20out%20the%20saw%20horses%20and%20the%20circular%20saw%20and%20measured%20and%20cut%20(I%20couldn't%20watch%20that%20part)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20he%20shingled%20the%20entire%20thing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWho%20is%20this%20child?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYesterday%20he%20never%20made%20his%20bed%20or%20picked%20up%20his%20dirty%20clothes%20or%20wet%20towels%20from%20the%20floor.%20Today,%20he%20is%20rebuilding%20a%20shed%20roof.%20Hmmm...%20I%20think%20my%20little%20is%20growing%20into%20a%20man.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EApple%20Eggrolls:%20(makes%204)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20is%20high%20apple%20season%20around%20here.%20I%20have%20canned%2012%20quarts%20of%20spiced%20apples%20and%206%20quarts%20of%20apple%20sauce.%20We%20eat%20an%20apple%20a%20day%20and%20I%20still%20have%20apples%20in%20bowls,%20in%20the%20refrigerator%20and%20on%20the%20counter.%20Since%20it%20is%20just%20the%20two%20of%20us%20a%20pie%20is%20too%20much.%20I%20think%20these%20rolls%20are%20the%20perfect%20substitute%20when%20a%20pie%20is%20too%20big.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20the%20butter%20in%20a%20large%20saucepan%20and%20add%20brown%20sugar%20and%20cinnamon.%20Stir%20to%20combine.%20Add%20the%20apples%20and%20saute%20until%20just%20a%20bit%20soft,%20about%203%20to%204%20minutes.%20Sprinkle%20flour%20over%20the%20apples%20and%20cook%20for%20about%2030%20more%20seconds%20to%20thicken%20sauce.%20Cover%20and%20chill.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20apples%20have%20cooled,%20spoon%20a%20generous%20amount%20onto%20each%20egg%20roll%20wrapper,%20wrap%20up%20like%20an%20envelope.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFry%20each%20egg%20roll%20until%20golden.%20Sprinkle%20generously%20with%20powdered%20sugar%20and%20serve%20warm.%20Preferably%20to%20a%20boy%20about%20to%20become%20a%20man.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
