%20Vish%20pampers%20his%20containers%20of%20blisteringly%20hot%20pepper%20plants,%20surreptitiously%20avoids%20his%20doctor's%20advice%20to%20avoid%20rich%20foods%20and%20is%20the%20head%20of%20a%20crack%20team%20of%20undercover%20associates%20which%20all%20have%20Vish-supplied%20nicknames:%20Tubelight%20(a%20morning-averse%20safecracker%20and%20car%20thief),%20Face%20Cream%20(a%20beautiful%20female%20mistress%20of%20disguise),%20Door%20Stop%20(the%20extremely%20lazy%20office%20boy),%20Handbrake%20(Vish's%20chauffeur),%20and%20Flush%20(an%20electronics%20and%20computer%20whiz%20who%20was%20the%20first%20to%20have%20a%20flush%20toilet%20in%20his%20village).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20books%20have%20humorous%20dialogue%20and%20Hall%20helpfully%20supplies%20glossaries%20at%20the%20end%20of%20each%20novel%20to%20explain%20all%20the%20unfamiliar%20words.%20I%20found%20that%20it%20was%20easy%20to%20tune%20my%20reading%20%22ear%22%20to%20the%20rhythm%20of%20Delhi-speak,%20or%20Dilli.%20Tarquin's%20plots%20offer%20a%20great%20introduction%20to%20the%20history%20and%20culture%20of%20modern%20Delhi%20and%20each%20book%20delves%20into%20a%20mystery%20that%20explains%20one%20or%20more%20social%20issues,%20from%20the%20caste%20system%20to%20the%20lingering%20effects%20of%20Partition%20on%20Indian-Pakistani%20relations.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20series%20is%20now%20up%20to%20four%20wonderful%20books,%20and%20Tarquin%20Hall%20will%20hopefully%20continue%20to%20entertain%20me%20and%20many%20other%20readers%20with%20the%20foibles%20of%20our%20flawed%20detective%20with%20future%20installments.%20My%20favorite%20book%20so%20far%20is%20the%20the%20third%20novel,%20%20The%20Case%20of%20the%20Deadly%20Butter%20Chicken.%20While%20the%20titular%20dish%20is%20something%20I%20do%20plan%20to%20try,%20I%20was%20actually%20intrigued%20by%20Chicken%20Frankies,%20a%20street%20food%20dish%20that%20Puri%20scarfs%20down%20throughout%20the%20series.%20I%20originally%20thought%20he%20was%20just%20inhaling%20chicken%20frankfurters,%20but%20after%20reading%20about%20them%20over%20and%20over%20in%20the%20books,%20a%20quick%20Internet%20search%20revealed%20that%20a%20Chicken%20Frankie%20is%20a%20roti%20slathered%20with%20spicy%20chicken%20bits,%20chopped%20tomatoes,%20onions,%20cilantro%20and%20hot%20peppers%20and%20then%20rolled%20up%20to%20be%20eaten%20out%20of%20hand.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChicken%20Frankies%20are%20marvelously%20flavorful%20things,%20but%20they%20are%20not%20the%20most%20caloric%20food%20item%20in%20the%20world,%20so%20I%20do%20wonder%20why%20he%20is%20badgered%20by%20his%20wife%20Rumpi%20about%20eating%20them.%20He%20is%20on%20the%20rotund%20side,%20and%20he%20does%20seem%20to%20deserve%20her%20nickname%20for%20him,%20Chubby,%20gauging%20by%20his%20Alfred%20Hitchcock-like%20profile%20on%20each%20of%20the%20hardcover%20dust%20jackets.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20our%20version%20in%20a%20gluten-free%20roti.%20Dan%20makes%20these%20handmade%20rotis%20in%20a%20variation%20of%20this%20stove-top%20pizza%20crust%20recipe%20using%201/4%20cup%20chickpea%20flour%20(besan)%20and%201/2%20cup%20white%20rice%20flour%20for%20the%20Bob's%20Red%20Mill%20All%20Purpose%20Gluten%20Free%20Mix%20called%20for%20in%20the%20original%20recipe.%20I%20actually%20prefer%20my%20Chicken%20Frankies%20roti-less,%20with%20the%20filling%20ingredients%20served%20over%20over%20basmati%20rice,%20but%20Dan%20must%20have%20Vish's%20favorite%20snack%20in%20the%20traditional%20manner.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20are%20many%20Chicken%20Frankie%20recipes%20out%20there,%20but%20the%20variation%20I%20like%20the%20best%20is%20to%20cut%20up%20some%20chicken%20breast%20into%20small%20cubes%20and%20slow%20cook%20it%20in%20tomatoes%20that%20have%20been%20simmered%20with%20browned%20garlic,%20fresh%20ginger,%20coriander,%20cumin,%20chili%20powder%20and%20garam%20masala.%20You%20then%20lay%20your%20spiced%20chicken%20along%20one%20side%20of%20the%20roti,%20add%20some%20diced%20fresh%20onions,%20hot%20peppers,%20parsley,%20cilantro%20and%20other%20seasonings%20(I%20threw%20in%20some%20very%20un-Indian%20sour%20cream%20in%20there,%20which%20Vish%20would%20find%20horrendous,%20being%20a%20good%20Hindu).%20Then%20roll%20up%20and%20eat.%20Don't%20forget%20the%20napkins!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20linking%20this%20post%20to%20Novel%20Food,%20a%20blog%20event%20at%20Briciole,%20which%20rounds%20up%20posts%20about%20food%20inspired%20by%20participants'%20reading%20selections.%20Please%20consider%20adding%20your%20own%20entry%20to%20this%20round%20of%20Novel%20Food,%20which%20ends%20June%2023rd.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
