Receta Aloo Tikki | Potato Patties
by Nisha

Potatoes are the star ingredient in any chaat recipe. It is almost difficult to make one without using potatoes. So for the third day of the marathon I have prepared a simple and an easy potato based dish - Aloo Tikki. Tikki means a small cutlet or a croquette in hindi and hence the name. Mashed potatoes mixed with indian spices and herbs are formed into mini cutlets and shallow fried until golden brown.

This recipe forms the base for other chaats like aloo tikki chaat (served with chole) and Ragda Pattice. This can also be served as an appetizer or as snacks. If serving this as such, do not forget to serve it with the two chutneys - Green chutney and the sweet chutney and lots of chopped onions.

Aloo Tikki | Potato Patties

Mashed potato cutlets mixed with Indian spices and herbs.

Prep Time: 10 Mins | Cook Time: 15 Mins | Total Time: 25 Mins | Serves: 2

Ingredients

3-4 Medium sized Potatoes

1 Green Chilli

1 Small sized Onion chopped

2 Breads, sides cut

1 Tbsp Corn flour | Rice flour.

Instructions

Boil, peel and mash the potatoes. In a large mixing bowl combine all the ingredients. Check for seasoning and adjust. Cool the mixture completely.

Then make these into even sized patties. You can grease your palm with oil or water while shaping them.

Heat a griddle | Tava. Once it is hot add some oil and shallow fry the patties until it is golden brown on both sides.

Notes

The addition of bread is to absorb the extra moisture content present in the potatoes.

You can also give it a egg wash and dip it in bread crumbs before frying. Then skip the bread and corn flour in the mixture.
