Receta Amemura Melon メロンパンアイス大阪アメリカ村 (Osaka, Japan)
by Ang Sarap

One day in Osaka we were walking from America Mura heading towards Dotombori and on that short walk you will see a tons of shops and stalls that sells everything from clothes, shoes and food. This place is a shopping heaven at the same time a street food paradise so definitely you will not get bored on every alley that you will pass through. While my daughter and wife was busy sifting through endless clothes I was busy checking out some street food stalls and one of the ones I noticed was this Amemura Melon because people were queueing at the time I saw it. Amemura Melon basically is a shop that sells melonpan or what is also called the melon bread. Melonpan is one on the list of the things I wanted to try when I visit this country so I did. So what is melonpan? Basically it’s a type of sweet bread which is very crispy cookie like outside but very soft sponge like inside, though it is named like such, melon is not on its ingredients list, it’s just a plain sweet bread shaped like a melon hence the name. This sweet bread is very popular in Japan but it is also well known in Taiwan, China and even in Latin American countries. From the most basic plain bread it can have many variations where it is flavoured, filled with and/or topped with sweet ingredients like chocolates, maple syrup, caramel, fruits, whipped cream and the one we tried which is ice cream. I wanted to give the green tea flavoured ice cream a shot but not this time as I want to enjoy that ice cream flavour on its own not without anything. If you’re are not a fan of sweet stuff don’t worry as they also sell savoury versions where it is filled with bacon, cheese even mayonnaise. So how was it? Well as usual I am easy to please in terms of food but I guess even the pickiest eater would agree that this is a good bread, in terms of texture it was a perfect mix of crispy and soft and in flavour it was delicate yet delicious, a perfect bun to place a nice scoop of ice cream to.I would definitely love to have this for a snack once in a while, just imagining a freshly baked one that you can smell while slicing it in half to fill it with your favourite ice cream makes me want to back to Japan already.Amemura Melon メロンパンアイス大阪アメリカ村 Address: 〒542-0086 Ōsaka-fu, Ōsaka-shi, Chūō-ku, Nishishinsaibashi, 2 Chome−11−9 Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...
