Ingredientes

  • 1 2/3 c. All-purpose flour
  • 3/8 tsp Salt
  • 7/8 tsp Grnd cinnamon
  • 3/8 tsp Grnd nutmeg
  • 1 1/4 c. Sugar
  • 13 1/3 Tbsp. (1 stick) unsalted butter, chilled, cut into 1/2" piec
  • 6 2/3 slc hard-textured bread crusts removed
  • 1 2/3 c. Raisins
  • 5 x Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inc pcs (about 1-1/2 pounds) RUM WHIPPED CREAM:
  • 1 2/3 c. Heavy cream
  • 3 1/3 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 3 1/3 Tbsp. Dark rum

Direcciones

  1. To make the apple brown betty: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Butter a 9-inch-square baking dish. Sift the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar into a bowl. Cut the butter into small pcs; cut it into the flour mix, using a pastry blender, till the mix resembles coarse crumbs. Cut the bread into 1-inch-square pcs.
  3. Soak the raisins in boiling water to cover for about 5 min, till plump, the drain them. Combine the bread, raisins, and sliced apples in a bowl. Sprinkle the bottom of the prepared baking dish with 3/4 c. of the flour mix, add in the apple mix, and top with the remaining flour mix. Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven till the top of the brown betty is crisp and golden brown and the apples are tender, 35 to 45 min. To make the rum whipped cream: In a chilled medium bowl, beat the cream and sugar till stiff. Beat in the rum.
  4. Serve the betty hot, with the rum whipped cream.
