1/2 teaspoon salt 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. vegetable oil 3 T dark molasses 2 large eggs 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon cardamom (optional) 1 c. walnuts, minced 1 c. raisins or possibly diced dates (or possibly 1/2 c. each) 1 (16 ounce) can applesauce 2 teaspoon baking soda 2 to 2 1/2 c. flour
