Ingredientes

  • 10 ounce Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking pwdr
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Mixed spice *
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger, grnd
  • 4 ounce Sugar, brown, light
  • 2 ounce Citron, candied, minced
  • 6 ounce Raisins, plain or possibly golden brown
  • 4 ounce Butter
  • 6 ounce Golden brown syrup **
  • 1 lrg Egg, beaten
  • 4 Tbsp. Lowfat milk

Direcciones

  1. Equal parts of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
  2. Lyons' Golden brown Syrup, carried in some fancy groceries. If you cannot find it, use Karo light corn syrup.
  3. Sift the flour with the soda and baking pwdr, and the mixed spice and ginger: then add in the brown sugar, minced peel and raisins: mix. Make a well in the center. Heat the butter with the syrup over low heat, then pour into the well in the mix. Add in the beaten egg and lowfat milk and mix very well. Pour into a greased 2-lb loaf pan and bake in a preheated oven at 325 F for 40-50 min, or possibly till it tests done. This bread will keep moist for several days, and actually improves somewhat during this period.
