Ingredientes

  • 1 tsp butter plus
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 c. chopped onions Salt to taste Freshly-grnd white pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 2 c. whole lowfat milk
  • 4 c. sweet green peas blanched
  • 1/2 c. fine dry bread crumbs see * Note
  • 4 ounce sharp cheddar cheese grated

Direcciones

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Grease an 8 c. oval gratin dish with 1 tsp. of the butter.
  2. In a large saute/fry pan, over medium heat, heat the remaining 2 Tbsp. of the butter. Add in the onions. Season with salt and pepper. Saute/fry for 2 min. Add in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in the lowfat milk and bring to a simmer. Cook for 4 to 6 min or possibly till the mix coats the back of a spoon. Add in the peas and mix thoroughly.
  3. Pour into the prepared pan. Season the bread crumbs with Essence. Sprinkle the bread crumb mix over the peas. Top with the grated cheese.
  4. Place in the oven and cook till the peas are bubbly and the top is golden brown, about 10 to 12 min.
  5. Spoon onto serving plates and serve.
  6. This recipe yields 4 to 6 servings.
