%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20friend%20S%20had%20seen%20my%20graduation%20cupcakes%20on%20the%20blog%20and%20she%20loved%20them%20so%20much%20that%20she%20asked%20me%20if%20I%20could%20bake%20a%20cake%20for%20a%20baby%20shower%20that%20she%20and%20her%20friends%20were%20throwing%20for%20their%20good%20friend%20and%20neighbor%20who%20is%20expecting%20their%20second%20baby%20in%20June.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20more%20than%20happy%20to%20oblige%20and%20the%20only%20requirement%20was%20that%20they%20wanted%20a%20quarter%20sheet%20cake,%20the%20flavor%20and%20theme%20was%20left%20to%20me.%20S%20had%20mentioned%20that%20the%20couple%20did%20not%20know%20the%20gender%20of%20their%20to-be-born%20,%20so%20I%20had%20to%20think%20of%20a%20neutral%20theme.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20baby%20shower%20was%20on%20May%2012th%20,%20I'm%20so%20late%20in%20posting%20this%20I%20know,%20but%20I%20had%20a%20lot%20of%20things%20going%20on,%20which%20you'll%20see%20in%20subsequent%20posts...so%20read%20on%20!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETrust%20me,%20I%20have%20never%20given%20so%20much%20thought%20into%20anything%20I%20have%20done%20until%20now.%20The%20idea%20for%20a%20Crib%20cake%20came%20to%20my%20mind%20one%20day%20after%20I%20was%20returning%20home%20from%20work%20;-)%20.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20main%20inspiration%20was%20from%20this%20video%20on%20youtube.%20I%20literally%20lost%20sleep%20thinking%20of%20different%20ways%20and%20methods%20to%20get%20this%20cake%20done.%20:-)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20just%20couldn't%20fix%20on%20a%20design%20for%20the%20crib%20sheet%20and%20comforter%20until%20the%20last%20minute.%20I%20knew%20the%20theme%20should%20be%20neutral,%20but%20I%20din't%20want%20to%20use%20Pink-Blue%20or%20Yellow-Green%20combos,%20very%20very%20common.%20Finally%20I%20saw%20an%20actual%20crib%20sheet%20design%20online%20with%20Lavendar-Brown%20and%20I%20thought,%20that%20would%20look%20unqiue%20and%20different%20and%20I%20must%20say,%20it%20was%20just%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlso,%20this%20is%20my%20first%20try%20ever%20at%20making%20a%20Fondant%20cake%20and%20that%20too%20with%20homemade%20Marshmallow%20fondant%20(recipe%20below),%20which%20tastes%20absolutely%20yummm.%20Ok,%20so%20theme%20was%20ready%20,%20I%20knew%20I%20would%20use%20fondant,%20now%20all%20that%20was%20left%20was%20a%20killer%20cake%20flavor%20that%20everyone%20would%20remember.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20found%20one%20at%20my%20most%20favorite%20baking%20site,%20a%20Chocolate%20Banana%20cake%20(recipe%20here)%20and%20I%20used%20Chocolate%20buttercream%20frosting%20(recipe%20here),%20which%20was%20a%20super%20duper%20hit%20at%20the%20baby%20shower...Hurray!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20whole%20cake%20decoration%20was%20a%20mathematical%20situation!%20My%20cake%20size%20was%209%20x13%20x%202%20inches.%20I%20had%20to%20take%20measurements%20to%20roll%20the%20fondant%20such%20that%20the%20fondant%20would%20be%20atleast%202%20inches%20more%20than%20the%20cake%20width,%20length%20and%20height.%20I%20used%20different%20cutters%20to%20give%20the%20polka%20dot%20design%20and%20heart%20shapes%20for%20the%20bed%20skirt%20and%20the%20teddy%20bear%20on%20the%20comforter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20also%20threw%20in%20some%20cute%20little%20baby%20feet%20candy%20around%20the%20Crib%20Cake%20:-)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20darling%20husband%20offered%20to%20help%20with%20the%20crib%20railings%20and%20he%20measured%20and%20drew%20the%20beautiful%20railing%20shape%20on%203%20sheets%20of%20paper%20and%20stuck%20them%20on%20our%20table%20and%20placed%20a%20parchment%20sheet%20over%20the%20drawing%20so%20that%20I%20could%20trace%20over%20it.%20How%20sweet%20:-)%20The%20crib%20railings%20were%20made%20using%20melted%20dark%20cocoa%20flavored%20candy%20melts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20railings%20were%20the%20most%20delicate%20and%20difficult%20portion%20of%20the%20cake.%20They%20did%20break%20twice%20or%20thrice,%20but%20I%20glued%20it%20back%20on%20with%20more%20candy%20melts,%20Phew!!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Donald%20and%20Daisy%20on%20top%20were%20added%20at%20the%20last%20minute.%20I%20wanted%20to%20make%20a%20teddy%20bear,%20but%20my%20skills%20at%20that%20were%20quite%20limited%20:-)%20So%20i%20decided%20maybe%20a%20small%20puppy%20or%20teddy%20bear%20would%20be%20cute%20and%20also%20a%20nice%20gift%20for%20the%20couple%20to%20remember%20the%20cake%20for%20years%20to%20come,%20and%20was%20I%20glad%20I%20found%20these%202%20cuties%20at%20Toys%20R%20Us,%20and%20the%20Daisy%20doll%20literally%20matched%20the%20color%20of%20the%20cake...%20:-)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Crib%20Cake%20was%20a%20absolute%20hit%20at%20the%20shower.%20Everyone,%20specially%20the%20children%20were%20all%20really%20happy%20with%20the%20cake%20and%20it%20was%20over%20within%20seconds%20of%20cutting%20the%20cake.%20Too%20bad%20there%20were%20no%20seconds%20;-)%20They%20loved%20the%20taste%20of%20the%20fondant%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20are%20few%20snaps%20taken%20on%20my%20mobile%20from%20just%20before%20and%20after%20the%20cake%20cutting.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20forgot%20to%20take%20my%20camera%20in%20all%20the%20hurry%20,%20so%20here's%20a%20snap%20taken%20by%20the%20father-to-be%20:-)%20and%20isn't%20it%20just%20lovely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHomemade%20Marshmallow%20Fondant%20Recipe%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou'll%20need%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20In%20a%20large%20microwave%20safe%20bowl%20,%20add%202tblsp%20water%20and%20the%20entire%20pack%20of%20marshmallows%20and%20heat%20on%20High%20for%201%20minute%20or%20until%20marshmallows%20begin%20to%20puff%20up%20and%20melt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Stir%20the%20marshmallows%20until%20a%20thick%20paste%20is%20obtained.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Add%20powdered%20sugar%20into%20the%20bowl%20and%20stir%20until%20the%20sugar%20and%20marshmallows%20are%20somewhat%20mixed%20together.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Over%20your%20kitchen%20counter%20spread%20some%20powdered%20sugar%20and%20add%20the%20marshmallow-sugar%20mixture%20here%20and%20knead%20continuously%20until%20a%20smooth%20dough%20is%20obtained.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(You%20may%20use%20vegetable%20shortening%20to%20grease%20your%20kitchen%20counter%20and%20also%20your%20hands%20,%20so%20that%20the%20dough%20does%20not%20stick%20to%20your%20hands,%20but%20I%20skipped%20this).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Wrap%20your%20fondant%20in%20cling%20wrap%20immediately,%20coated%20with%20some%20powdered%20sugar%20or%20shortening%20and%20keep%20it%20aside%20for%20sometime.%20Before%20using,%20again%20knead%20until%20soft%20and%20use%20as%20needed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E[%20I%20used%20Wilton%20Icing%20gels%20to%20incorporate%20color%20into%20the%20fondant%20wherever%20required%20]%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20color%20the%20fondant:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Take%20the%20required%20amount%20of%20fondant%20and%20using%20a%20toothpick%20or%20coffee%20stirrer%20add%20some%20coloring%20gel%20into%20the%20fondant%20and%20knead%20well%20until%20the%20desired%20color%20has%20spread%20across%20the%20entire%20fondant%20ball.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20for%20fondant%20is%20a%20keeper%20and%20I%20already%20made%20two%20cakes%20using%20it%20and%20everyone%20loves%20the%20taste.%20Try%20it%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20what%20do%20you%20think%20of%20my%20Crib%20Cake?%20Do%20let%20me%20know.%20Also%20come%20and%20join%20me%20on%20Facebook%20,%20we'll%20have%20lots%20of%20fun%20sharing,%20learning%20and%20eating%20some%20yummy%20food%20and%20creative%20cakes%20;-)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHope%20you%20all%20had%20a%20lovely%20Memorial%20Day%20weekend!!%20Enjoy!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Manju%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
