Receta Bacon Maple Baked Doughnuts (Almost Voodoo Style)
by Marlene Baird

People, please don’t judge me. Some things are made to be sinful and made to be enjoyed. Right? Sometimes the memories from a trip make you want to rush home and try to re invent the dish. Portland, famous for their Voodoo Doughnuts caught me by surprise. I really don’t do doughnuts and for good reason. But their Bacon Maple Doughnut was not to be passed up.

As I sat across the picnic table with Kelly staring at this behemoth of a doughnut, laden with maple glaze and then topped with two, count them, two crispy strips of bacon, my mouth started to water. It was love at first bite. My mind was spinning and I couldn’t decide if I wanted to savor this treat or devour it all in a split second.

Take a look at this voodoo doughnut. Now you see what I mean.

Now, one of the only good things about leaving Portland and coming home was recreating a Bacon Maple Baked Doughnut, but just a tad bit healthier. I know, I know. There is nothing healthy about a doughnut. But at least it’s not as bad for you. Voodoo, I hereby demand that you never set foot in Northern California.

These are definitely dangerous. I am happy to report that I only had one and the rest were devoured by the boys.

I mean really, bacon is king, right? Who doesn’t like bacon? Of course there is that elite group that don’t eat anything that was alive at one point. But it’s okay. We need people like them in this world so there will be more bacon for us.

Can you see those delicious, crispy bits of bacon sitting on top of a most flavorful maple glaze and all of it on top of a baked doughnut.

I am so glad the recipe only bakes up 8 of these doughnuts. You all know what would happen if I made more.

Eight is the new bakers dozen

So, if you have never had a voodoo, don’t you worry, I have come to the rescue.

Oh, by the way, I did receive the hubby’s seal of approval.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
