Receta Banana Bread Brownies
This week, I've been working on the menu for our annual Super Bowl party. Party is a very loose term in the Jones home when it comes to the Super Bowl, however. For my teenage boys, it is all about the game. For the other six of us, it is all about the food. Just tell me who wins the game so I can pretend to care when talking to others about it on Monday morning.....
Maybe if the Minnesota Vikings ever made it to the big game, I might have a bit more excitement for the whole event but for now, the Super Bowl is just an excuse to eat a bunch of party food that I would never eat normally. Mozzarella sticks, hot wings, meatballs, nachos, kettle corn, candy and brownies topped with ice cream and hot fudge. Now THAT is football food!
Since my oldest son despises chocolate, I felt compelled to find a non-chocolate brownie for him so he wouldn't be left out of the Super Bowl sweets. These Banana Bread Brownies have been sitting in my "to make" pile of recipes for over a year, so this was my reason to give them a try. What the heck was I waiting for? The brownies alone are amazing, but topped with that browned butter frosting....come on already! Never had browned butter before? Man are you missing out, so try to control yourself and not to eat all the frosting before slathering it over the brownies. It is that good. I topped each cut brownie with a whole pecan thinking they looked like cute little footballs, but that was probably a little too cutesie-wootsie for the guys.
Banana Bread Brownies
(recipe adapted from Life's Simple Measures)
Brownies:
- 2 1/4 C sugar
- 3/4 C butter, room temperature
- 3 eggs, room temperature
- 1 1/2 C sour cream
- 2 2/3 C mashed ripe bananas (about 5-6 bananas)
- 3 tsp vanilla
- 3 C flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- Frosting:
- 3/4 C butter
- 6 C powdered sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp vanilla
- 4 1/2 Tb milk
1. Heat oven to 375 degrees and grease a 18x13" half sheet pan.
2. In a large bowl, beat together the sugar and butter until creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time and beat together. Add the sour cream, bananas and vanilla and mix well. Add the dry ingredients and blend just until combined. You could also add some walnuts or pecans at this point if you wanted. Spread evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
3. While the brownies bake, prepare the frosting. In a large saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat until it boils. After it boils, stir it continually as the butter begins to turn brown. You want it a nice rich brown color, but don't let it go too far! Remove from the heat and add all the remaining ingredients into the pan and beat until smooth. Frost the brownies while they are still hot so some of the frosting melts into the brownies. Cool completely before cutting and serving.
