Barilla Pronto Pasta One Pan Broccoli Cheddar Penne

If putting together a quick dinner is something you’d like to do, try Barilla Pronto Pasta. Granted there are times when a long list of ingredients and using almost every pan in your cabinet sounds enticing. No? Ok, let’s scratch that thought. You’re tired, the fam is hungry, the laundry is piling up and the kids have practice, dance lessons or whatever. With Barilla’s new line of pasta everything is cooked in one pan, there is no boiling or draining.

I decided to try the Creamy One Pan Broccoli Cheddar Penne. It felt strange not to have the strainer ready and waiting in the sink. I guess old habits die hard. According to the directions this pasta should be al dente in approximately 10 minutes depending on your stove. My stove top wasn’t buying that and we are not the biggest al dente lovers. As a matter of fact my pasta is more on the mushy side by the time I’m done with it. Just keeping it real folks. I cooked the Pronto Pasta for 16 minutes and added another ½ cup of water over the recommended amount. Despite those minor adjustments the dish was very good. To satisfy us carnivores I served it with sliced Italian sausage and it garnered rave reviews. No doubt, I’ll be using this again soon and I am willing to live without mushy pasta. Thanks Barilla Pronto Pasta!

What did I do with my time saved? It certainly wasn’t laundry and I don‘t have small kids to take anywhere. What I do have is a little extra time to pin, pin, and pin some more!

Barilla Pronto Pasta ~ Creamy One Pan Broccoli Cheddar Penne Author: Sandra Lee Garth Recipe type: Main Cuisine: African Prep time: 5 mins Cook time: 10 mins Total time: 15 mins Serves: 6 Barilla Pronto Pasta makes one pot meals with no boiling or draining. Ingredients

1 box Barilla® Pronto™ Penne 1 cup heavy cream 3 cups chopped broccoli 1½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese Salt and black pepper to taste Instructions

Add a little bit of salt to the water. Cook on high, stirring occasionally, until almost all of the liquid has evaporated. Add cream and broccoli; stir to combine and heat through. Remove the skillet from heat, season with salt and pepper to taste and fold in the cheese. Serve immediately. Notes I used fresh broccoli which added a little prep time. I also loved the option of using only one pan and not having to drain the pasta. I also loved the finished dish and served it with Italian sausage. At the end of the recommended 10 minute cooking time it was not done enough for our liking. I added another ½ cup of water and 6 minutes and it was perfect. 3.3.3077
