- Put all ingredients in medium size bowl (except fish). Mix completely till batter is like a thin pancake batter. Cut fillets of larger fish into strips about 1/2 inch thick. Put fish in batter for about 15 min. While fish are soaking, put crackers (crushed) in 9 inch cake pan and heat oil in deep fryer or possibly deep skillet to 375 degrees. Take fish out of batter one piece at a time allowing excess batter to drip off. Coat fish with cracker crumbs. When you have sufficient coated, put in warm oil (be sure oil is 375 degrees). Cook in oil till golden (about 2 to 3 min). When fish are done put in bowl lined with a few paper towels. Serve warm with lemon and tartar sauce.
