Cutlets or bread balls, are my favorite anytime, be it vegetable balls or meat balls. These make great tea time snack or even a party crowd pleaser. You can make these either with leftover bread or fresh bread. But leftover bread works better, as you can easily crumble them for use. But do not use the spoiled ones. Here I have used just potatoes, baby potatoes to be precise, along with bread to make a simple humble snack. u can use normal potatoes too. The ingredients are easily available ones and so you do not have the need to go shopping. Some masala powders will spice up the balls and give them a nice aroma and flavor. If you find yourself guilty in indulging your diet restricted soul in this deep fried snack, you can opt for flattening them and pan frying them like you do for tikkis or cutlets. These balls are crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Lets get to know how to make this recipe.

INGREDIENTS

Makes 10 - 15 balls

Total Preparation Time - 20 to 30 minutes

Bread Slices - 3 (I used leftover sweet bread)

PREPARATION METHOD

Wash and pressure cook baby potatoes for 15 minutes on low flame. (The time depends on the size of the potatoes) You can also boil it. When cooked remove from flame and set aside until it cools. Then remove the skin gently.

Mash the skinned potatoes well and set aside.

Now crumble the bread pieces, to this add garam masala, red chilli powder, cumin powder, corn flour, maida, salt and mix well.

Add the mashed potatoes now and mix really well using your fingers, until all the ingredients in the bowl blends well with each other and the mixture forms a dough. Do not add even a single drop of water.

Now pinch small parts from the dough and roll into balls. You can flatten them into different shapes or flatten them like cutlets too.

Place a pan on flame and pour oil into it for frying the balls. You can either shallow fry or deep fry them.

Remove from flame, place on tissue paper to absorb excess oil.

Serve with ketchup!!

TIP 1: You can spice it up by adding some chopped coriander leaves, chopped onion and some other vegetables like carrots and beans also. You can half cook them or use the remains from any vegetable soup and use it in making these balls. Also cooked minced meat, steamed fish can also be added.

TIP 2: Be careful not to add water, else you wont get the desired shapes, also the balls will absorb excess oil while frying.

TIP 3: If you want a very crispy outside then dip in some corn flour paste (corn flour + water; make the paste runny enough) and roll in some breadcrumbs, then deep fry them.

TIP 4: You van pan fry these, by flattening them into cutlets.
