%20to%20whip%20up.%20I%20used%20bright%20yellow%20corn%20noodles%20for%20my%20dish,%20which%20began%20with%20a%20couple%20of%20heads%20of%20broccoli,%20a%20wedge%20of%20smoked%20gouda%20and%20a%20trip%20out%20to%20the%20herb%20garden.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20my%20family's%20favorite%20pasta%20dishes%20is%20a%20simple%20bit%20of%20steamed%20chopped%20broccoli%20bathed%20in%20a%20garlic%20butter%20sauce.%20It's%20quick%20to%20make%20for%20those%20busy%20weekday%20dinners%20and%20it%20suits%20all%20of%20my%20vegetarians%20and%20non-vegetarians,%20gluten-free%20and%20gluten-full%20eaters%20alike.%20I%20was%20thinking%20about%20that%20smoked%20gouda%20that%20had%20been%20hanging%20around%20my%20fridge,%20though,%20and%20thought%20that%20since%20steamed%20broccoli%20with%20cheese%20sauce%20is%20such%20a%20proven%20winner,%20pasta%20with%20a%20cheesy%20broccoli%20sauce%20would%20be%20a%20natural%20pairing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20perusing%20some%20of%20my%20cookbooks%20and%20prowling%20the%20Internet,%20I%20see%20that%20this%20idea%20has%20not%20only%20been%20dreamed%20up%20before,%20it's%20sort%20of%20a%20standard.%20Well,%20it%20was%20new%20to%20me%20and%20my%20family,%20and%20with%20the%20addition%20of%20fresh%20spring%20herbs%20generously%20strewn%20on%20top,%20it%20was%20gobbled%20down%20mighty%20quick%20at%20Chez%20Crispy.%20%20The%20smoked%20gouda%20really%20lends%20a%20rich%20flavor%20to%20this%20pasta%20sauce%20and%20the%20delicate%20onion%20taste%20of%20the%20snipped%20chives%20and%20chive%20blossoms%20just%20makes%20everything%20sing.%20You%20could%20substitute%20in%20another%20kind%20of%20cheese,%20but%20I%20think%20the%20smoked%20gouda%20was%20the%20key%20ingredient%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECook%20pasta%20until%20al%20dente.%20Drain%20and%20rinse%20in%20hot%20water%20to%20remove%20starch%20and%20keep%20from%20sticking.%20Keep%20warm.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%201%20cup%20salted%20water%20to%20a%20vigorous%20boil%20in%20another%20large%20pot.%20Add%20in%20broccoli%20and%20steam%20until%20just%20crisp-tender,%20about%204-5%20minutes.%20Drain%20and%20rinse%20in%20cold%20water%20to%20keep%20green%20color%20bright.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20pasta%20water%20is%20boiling,%20whip%20up%20your%20sauce:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20butter%20in%20large,%20heavy-bottomed%20saucepan.%20Add%20rice%20flour%20and%20blend%20together%20well.%20Gradually%20add%20in%20milk,%20stirring%20constantly%20to%20keep%20sauce%20smooth.%20When%20sauce%20starts%20to%20bubble%20and%20thicken,%20add%20in%20grated%20cheese%20and%20season%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper%20to%20taste.%20When%20cheese%20is%20all%20melted%20and%20blended%20in,%20add%20cooked%20broccoli.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDress%20pasta%20with%20broccoli%20and%20cheese%20sauce.%20Lay%20on%20a%20blanket%20of%20shaved%20Parmesan%20cheese,%20snipped%20chives%20and%20chive%20blossoms%20and%20a%20wee%20bit%20of%20dill%20and%20serve%20hot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%206-8%20servings.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20when%20my%20chive%20plants%20are%20blossoming%20and%20will%20be%20strewing%20these%20lovely%20lavender%20blooms%20on%20my%20salads,%20pastas%20and%20stir-fries%20as%20long%20as%20they%20keep%20coming%20(and%20the%20bumble%20bees%20allow%20me%20in%20to%20harvest%20them).%20Incidentally,%20fresh%20chives%20are%20ridiculously%20easy%20to%20put%20up%20for%20eating%20out%20of%20season.%20Just%20rinse,%20pat%20dry%20and%20snip.%20Pack%20them%20into%20freezer%20containers%20or%20bags%20and%20you%20can%20just%20pull%20them%20out%20whenever%20you%20need%20a%20bit%20of%20chlorophyll%20over%20the%20winter.%20They%20will%20be%20a%20darker%20green%20color%20and%20a%20bit%20limper%20when%20they%20thaw,%20but%20they%20are%20very%20welcome%20bit%20of%20greenery%20and%20spring%20flavor%20in%20the%20heart%20of%20winter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'll%20be%20accepting%20Presto%20Pasta%20Night%20submissions%20through%20early%20Friday%20morning%20(May%2025),%20and%20plan%20to%20post%20the%20roundup%20later%20that%20afternoon,%20so%20please%20feel%20free%20to%20send%20me%20your%20awesome%20pasta%20blog%20posts%20until%20then.%20I've%20already%20received%20some%20really%20tasty%20entries%20that%20I%20am%20excited%20to%20share%20with%20you%20later.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
