Receta Brussels Sprouts, Red Pepper Stir Fry, a tree and a Rembrandt
Are you a fan of Brussels sprouts?
We love them… In all sorts of ways
It seems that most people who don’t have only tried them steamed and mushy.
In my opinion very few vegetables are at their best steamed and mushy.
If you’re not a fan, try them stir-fried and crisp-tender.
You may become a convert to this wonderful winter vegetable.
Brussels Sprouts, Red Pepper Stir Fry
Total time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 16 – 18 medium Brussels sprouts, trimmed and sliced
- 1/2 large red pepper, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbs minced, fresh ginger
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 1 tbs soy sauce
- 1/4 cup chicken stock
- 2 tsp sherry vinegar
Instructions:
Heat oil in a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
Add sprouts, pepper, onion and stir-fry for 5 minutes.
Add garlic, ginger, and stir-fry 3 minutes longer.
Add soy sauce and stir-fry 1 minute.
Add chicken stock, reduce heat. cover and cook 5 minutes.
Uncover and cook off liquid.
Add sherry vinegar, stir and serve.
We’ve been playing….
We’ve had friends staying with us.
On Friday we decided we wanted to see two well-known, very local, sites that we’ve not visited before: a tree and a Rembrandt.
It’s a big tree….
The big oak tree is known as Le Chêne Vénérable de Tombeboeuf,
You can see my friend walking under it.
According to the info, it’s a ‘young’ tree at only 250 years old.
I’m going back in the summer to get another picture.
Then – on to the Rembrandt:
In a 1,000 year old church, in a small village on the canal that we ride our bikes on, is a Rembrandt.
The church at Le Mas d’Agenais has Rembrandt’s ‘Christ on the Cross’ hanging on a wall.
I’d heard of it but we had never gone to see it.
There it was, just hanging on the wall in an open church.
Well, it was a bit more protected than that…. I think…..
Le Mas d’Agenais is one of the oldest villages in the Lot-et-Garonne and has more than 2,000 years of history going back to the Romans.
We really need to stop waiting for excuses to go out exploring in our own backyard.
But, for now, our friends are gone and so is our excuse to play.
Back to work for now.
At least I have some fun things to talk about in school tomorrow.
