  • 3/4 c. Brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg grnd
  • 1/4 c. Flour
  • 1/4 c. Butter cool
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon grnd
  • 1 1/2 c. Rolled oats
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 c. Flour
  • 1/2 c. Butter
  • 1/2 tsp Baking pwdr
  • 1 c. Brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 x Egg
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 c. Apple, tart, peeled minced
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 c. Walnuts minced
  • 1/2 tsp Allspice Powdered sugar for dusting
  • 1/4 tsp Grnd cloves

  1. DESCRIPTION: Apples and nuts are baked into the batter of these streusel-topped bars.
  2. Preheat oven to 375. Butter a 9x13 baking dish. Streusel: In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Using pastry blender, cut in butter till mix resembles coarse meal. Chill.
  3. Cookie Base: In a medium bowl, combine oats, flour, baking pwdr, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and salt. In large mixing bowl, beat butter and brown sugar together till light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Stir in flour mix 1/2 c at a time, blending after each addition.
  4. Stir in apple and nuts.
  5. Spread proportionately in buttered pan. Sprinkle top proportionately with streusel mix. Bake 35-40 min, or possibly till toothpick inserted in center comes out clean and cookie begins to pull away from pan sides. Cold in pan on rack. Dust lightly with powdered sugar. Cut into 24 bars. Store airtight one week, freeze for longer storage.
