Receta Cheesy popovers or yorkshire pudding for daring bakers
Some two years back when I started to share my passion for food on my little blog, it was always about the food that I have tasted before at home or somewhere else, but not the other way round. This time things are little different. Today I am going to share something which I had never tasted before, some thing which is completely new to me and nevertheless it becomes my new-found love too.
Though I love baked goodies, and who doesn’t ? but am enjoying baking not much long ago. I first started with boxed cakes or ready-made mixes, but soon found that these offers little in terms of excitement, creativity, taste and passion, I decided to start baking from scratch. Started with a loaf cake, then graduated to make pies and tarts, then baked a cheesecake and when I came across “The Daring Bakers” I happily get myself enrolled into this, two challenges later I found myself back to square one, the challenges were really tough for me, I chicken out in the last-minute.
But this time when Lis , a daring baker challenges us to bake a quick bread or muffins, it comes as a respite to me, gleefully I went to the kitchen, switched on the oven and was about to make a regular quick bread or muffin, but something stopped me there, another muffin ? Honestly, it doesn’t sounds too much exciting to me, but when I saw Renata baked these popovers ??? I smiled at myself, well…here we go….
Popovers are something I have not come across, probably the first time I heard about it and that too in the daring bakers forum, little bit googling let me discover that these are also called as Yorkshire pudding, and the recipe sounds like a breeze, so I decided to try my hands on these.
Pictures say thousand words and if words could actually transliterated the real taste in your mouth, you will know what I am talking about, buttery, hollwo y and pillow y, crisp on the outer side and inside it is cottony soft, popovers are absolute delightful, bake them in the choicest flavours or dust the plain ones with sugar, popovers are simply adorable.
Recipe: Cheesy popovers or Yorkshire pudding
Summary: Usually popovers are baked in the popover pans, but muffin pans suits them perfectly well and you can also bake them in oven proof cups. This recipe of popover really helped me and this video just infused me with more confidence.
Ingredients
- All purpose flour : 1 cup
- Milk or cream : 1 cup
- Eggs (large) : 2
- Salt to taste
- Butter : 1 tbsp +
- Flavours:
- Sharp cheddar cheese : shredded
- Paprika : 1 tbsp
Instructions
Before you start with the procedure, let all the ingredients be at room temperature.
Preheat the oven at 425 F and put the baking sheet in the lower rack.
Cut the chilled butter into pea size and distribute them equally in all the holes of muffin tin.
Soften the remaing butter, add the eggs into it, and the milk.
Beat them with a hand mixer until well blended.
Sift the flour with salt and add it to the egg-milk mixture.
Beat them until well blended.
Set the mixture aside for 30 minutes.
Add the flavourings, like shredded cheese and paprika, and stir them well.
Put the prepared muffin tin in the oven and let the butter sizzle.
Take out the muffin tin and baking sheet and pour the batter in the hot muffin tins, batter should fill just one third of the holes of muffin tins.
Quickly return the muffin tin back into the oven and close the door.
Bake them for 20 minutes or more till the popovers are well risen and evenly browned.
Serve them immediately with butter or jam in between or with pot roasted vegetables in Yorkshire style.
Quick notes
1) Do not open the oven before 30 minutes, popovers may collapse.
2) Keep the batter as light as possible, so do not make them heavy by adding too much cheese or fruits for flavouring. It may not rise properly.
