%20Ok..am%20not%20going%20to%20get%20started%20about%20how%20I%20am%20not%20regular%20here%20or%20visiting%20n%20drooling%20at%20yum%20food%20blogs%20n%20all%20that%20sort%20of%20bloggy%20stuff%E2%80%A6:(%20Basically,just%20meh..:P..%20I%20was%20sick%20n%20lazy%20n%20bored%20n%20blah%20bla%20blabbiti%20bla..n%20just%20wanted%20to%20take%20a%20silent%20break..didn't%20mean%20I%20didn't%20miss%20this%20space%20or%20all%20you%20guys,but%20it%20just%20had%20to%20happen.:).Here%20falls%20is%20pretty%20strong%20this%20year%20n%20our%20apartment%20is%20really%20blessed%20with%20lots%20of%20beautiful%20trees%20n%20walk-ways%20n%20%20bushes%20n%20all%20those%20pretty%20romantic%20elements..:)%20n%20I%20really%20had%20a%20sweet%20time%20going%20out%20for%20walks%20clad%20in%20a%20cardigan%20,arms%20tightly%20wrapped%20around%20ma%20body%20with%20ma%20cam..enjoying%20the%20falls..sometimes%20kneeling%20down%20to%20click%20on%20those%20rare%20colored%20gorgeous%20leaves..n%20in%20the%20middle,sometimes%20getting%20wet%20n%20happy%20in%20those%20intermittent%20drizzles...at%20home,enjoying%20hot%20coffee%20in%20a%20cozy%20snuggie%20,reading%20a%20book/watching%20my%20fav%20TV%20shows%20n%20such%20n%20such..The%20constant%20laptop%20staring%20was%20giving%20me%20some%20nasty%20neck%20n%20back%20pain%20n%20my%20almost%20stagnant%20body%20started%20revolting%20so%20much%20that%20I%20just%20had%20to%20get%20out%20..going..%20On%20the%20cooking%20front,we%20just%20started%20eating%20a%20bit%20healthy%20n%20I%20am%20cooking%20up%20simple%20good%20soups%20n%20warm%20comfy%20foods%20ofcourse%20minus%20the%20weekend%20indulgences..:)%20So%20altogether%20blogging%20is%20taking%20a%20back%20seat..But%20then%20I%20started%20getting%20this%20feel%20that%20I%20may%20leave%20this%20space%20altogether%20forever%20n%20wont%20be%20able%20to%20get%20back%20at%20a%20later%20point%20of%20time.So%20me%20back%20with%20this%20draft%E2%80%A6Thankyou%20all%20you%20readers%20for%20dropping%20by%20n%20leaving%20nice%20words%20here..:)..I%20dunno%20if%20I%20can%20be%20regular%20in%20blogging%20like%20before,but%20definitely%20will%20peep%20in%20once-in-a-while..:)%20%20%20%20%20%20%20Actually%20this%20was%20a%20recipe%20that%20I%20was%20requested%20to%20put%20up%20here%20by%20some%20of%20ma%20readers%20long%20back.Its%20basically%20Ulli%20Theeyal%20recipe,made%20with%20pearl%20onions,but%20in%20some%20areas%20of%20kerala%20yam%20is%20also%20added%20in%20the%20preparation%20n%20hubs%20like%20it%20that%20way.We%20rarely%20get%20yam%20here%20,n%20so%20I%20was%20waiting%20to%20get%20hold%20of%20some%20to%20fix%20up%20this%20dish.Obviously,the%20frozen%20yam%20cubes%20never%20tastes%20good%20enough%20like%20the%20fresh%20ones%20back%20at%20home..Yam%20is%20a%20veggie%20from%20tuber%20family,grown%20underground.My%20dad%E2%80%99s%20home%20had%20yam%20plants%20n%20my%20grandma%20used%20to%20make%20this%20awesome%20Chenapuzhukku%20which%20is%20a%20mushy%20gravy%20of%20yams%20n%20chickpeas%20with%20ground%20coconut%20paste%20.On%20special%20occasions%20like%20%E2%80%98Thiruvathira%E2%80%99,this%20dish%20is%20made%20n%20had%20with%20Kanji/Rice%20Porridge.As%20a%20kid%20I%20was%20never%20fond%20of%20these%20veggies,the%20obvious%20:P,%20n%20never%20even%20ventured%20to%20taste%20it.Even%20now%20my%20fav%20prep%20would%20be%20the%20stir%20fried%20ones.But%20this%20one%20is%20such%20a%20traditionally%20famous%20one-of-a-kind%20dish%20with%20a%20piquant%20combination%20of%202%20veggies,yams%20n%20mildly%20sweet%20pearl%20onions.%20%20%20Pearl%20onions%20/%20Cheryulli%20/Kochulli%20are%20small%20onions,even%20smaller%20than%20shallots.They%20are%20a%20common%20favorite%20because%20of%20their%20mild%20onion-y%20flavor%20n%20subtle%20sweetness.They%20get%20saut%C3%A9ed%20fast%20n%20tastes%20really%20yum%20when%20fried.Usually%20people%20find%20it%20hard%20to%20clean%20n%20peel%20it.A%20quick%20way%20that%20I%20follow%20is%20drench%20them%20in%20hot%20water%20for%20few%20mins,the%20skin%20will%20peel%20off%20easily..:)%20I%20can%20vouch%20that%20,this%20one%20is%20a%20favorite%20most%20dish%20of%20numerous%20Malayalees%20,especially%20veggie%20people,non-veggies%20ofcourse%20have%20the%20Chemmeen%20theeyal%20made%20in%20the%20same%20way.I%20myself%20know%20so%20many%20of%20may%20friends%20n%20relatives%20who%20just%20die%20on%20this%20dish.If%20yam%20is%20not%20available%20you%20can%20make%20it%20with%20just%20the%20pearl%20onions%20n%20that's%20more%20well-known%20in%20Kerala%20as%20Ulli%20theeyal.The%20roasted%20ground%20coconut%20is%20what%20makes%20this%20dish%20so%20special%20n%20yummy.That%20spicy%20gravy%20when%20combined%20with%20the%20right%20amount%20of%20tanginess%20n%20a%20generous%20tempering,there%20we%20get%20%20some%20pure%20awesomeness%20n%20one%20of%20the%20finest%20gravy-based%20dish%20of%20traditional%20Kerala%20cuisine..You%20can%20have%20it%20with%20anything..hot%20white%20rice,Dosa,Idlli,Appam..anything..:)%20Ingredients%201/2-3/4%20Cup%20Yam%20pieces%20cubed%201%20C%20Pearl%20onions,%20sliced%20into%20rounds%20less%20than%201/4%20a%20cup%20of%20sliced%20coconut%205-6%20Thai%20green%20chillies%20slit%201/2%20%E2%80%931%20tsp%20Chilli%20powder%20which%20is%20optional,%20if%20at%20all%20the%20heat%20of%20green%20chillies%20is%20not%20enough%201%20tsp%20Turmeric%20Powder%20A%20pinch%20or%20two%20of%20Asaofetida%20Tamarind%20extract%20from%20a%20small%20lime%20size%20tamarind%20or%201%20Tbsp%20store%20bought%20extract(more%20or%20less%20according%20to%20how%20tangy%20you%20like%20it)%20Salt%20Curry%20Leaves%20Oil%20%20%20To%20Roast%20n%20grind:%201%20Tbsp%20Coconut%20oil%205-6%20Curry%20Leaves%201%20Crushed%20n%20chopped%20Garlic%202%20pearl%20onions%20sliced%20into%20thin%20rounds%201%20C%20fresh/dried%20%20Coconut%20flakes%201%20Tbsp%20Chilli%20Powder%201.5%20Tbsp%20Coriander%20Powder%201%20tsp%20Fresh%20ground%20Pepper%20Powder%20%20%20For%20Tempering:%20Coconut%20oil%20Curry%20Leaves%201.5%20tsp%20Mustard%20seeds%201/2%20tsp%20Fenugreek%20Seeds%205-6%20Dried%20Red%20Chillies%20%20%20Method%20In%20a%20wide%20bottomed%20pan%20,heat%20the%20coconut%20oil%20n%20add%20the%20curry%20leaves%20n%20saute%20till%20fragrant.%20Now%20add%20the%20coconut%20slices%20n%20fry%20till%20a%20golden%20shade%20n%20aromatic.%20Now%20pop%20in%20the%20yam%20cubes%20n%20onion%20slices%20,green%20chillies%20n%20fry%20well%20till%20everything%20is%20fried%20well,Yam%20cubes%20n%20onions%20turn%20somewhat%20crisp.You%20can%20add%20chilli%20powder%20while%20frying%20to%20make%20it%20more%20spicy%20n%20crisp%20.%20Now%20add%20the%20Tamarind%20extract%20n%20a%20cup%20of%20water%20n%20bring%20it%20to%20a%20slow%20boil.Cook%20till%20the%20yam%20is%20tender%20n%20cooked,but%20not%20mushy.%20Mean%20while%20roast%20all%20the%20ingredient%20under%20the%20%E2%80%9CTo%20Roast%20n%20grind%E2%80%9D%20section%20in%20that%20same%20order%20n%20grind%20without%20adding%20water.%20Keep%20the%20pan%20in%20simmer,n%20add%20this%20spicy%20powder%20into%20it.Mix%20with%20the%20tamarind%20water%20n%20veggies%20well%20for%20a%20while%20,n%20then%20add%20more%20water%20.Close%20it%20n%20let%20the%20flavors%20mix%20for%20a%20while.%20Do%20a%20taste%20test%20n%20add%20more%20salt/tamarind%20extract%20if%20needed.%20Do%20the%20tempering%20n%20close%20the%20pan%20till%20use..%20%20%20Verdict%20:%20I%20dont%20think%20we%20need%20a%20verdict%20of%20such%20a%20traditionally%20famous%20dish.It%20has%20all%20the%20right%20n%20palate%20%E2%80%93%20pleasing%20flavors%20mingled%20in%20it%20n%20as%20I%20told%20before%20,goes%20well%20with%20everything%20from%20rice%20to%20breakfast%20items%20like%20Dosa.Truly%20awesome..!!%20All%20of%20you%20have%20a%20great%20time,enjoy%20the%20falls%20n%20stay%20healthy%20n%20smiling..:)%20%20%20hugs%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
