%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20most%20kids%20in%20the%20neighbourhood,%20I%20had%20various%20strategies%20for%20maximizing%20the%20allowance%20to%20treat%20ratio.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPersonally,%20I%20preferred%20to%20skip%20over%20the%20less%20desirable%20treats%20(namely,%20anything%20that%20didn%E2%80%99t%20contain%20chocolate)%20and%20go%20straight%20for%20%20the%20good%20stuff%20%E2%80%93%20the%20biggest%20chocolate%20bar%20you%20could%20possibly%20buy%20with%20a%20single%20dollar%20bill.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESome%20exceptions%20could%20be%20made,%20if%20the%20circumstances%20were%20right.%20Gum%20was%20okay%20as%20long%20as%20it%20came%20packaged%20up%20with%20desirable%20collectibles%20like%20Garbage%20Pail%20Kids%20or%20Thunder%20Cat%20stickers,%20and%20freezies%20were%20the%20treat%20of%20choice%20on%20particularly%20hot%20days.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20there%20were%20Cherry%20Blossoms.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20Cherry%20Blossom%20is%20considerably%20smaller%20than%20most%20chocolate%20bars%20but%20still%20costs%20the%20same,%20so%20I%E2%80%99d%20normally%20have%20passed%20them%20over%20without%20a%20second%20glance%E2%80%A6%20except%20for%20the%20fact%20that%20each%20foil-wrapped%20nugget%20of%20chocolatey%20deliciousness%20happened%20to%20contain%20a%20whole%20freakin%E2%80%99%20maraschino%20cherry%20in%20the%20middle.%20And%20on%20the%20list%20of%20things%20that%20ten-year-old%20girls%20think%20are%20totally%20awesome,%20whole%20maraschinos%20rank%20pretty%20high.%20(Which%20probably%20explains%20why%20I%20also%20thought%20Shirley%20Temples%20were%20the%20bees%20freakin%E2%80%99%20knees.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20that%20cherry%20that%20put%20Cherry%20Blossoms%20in%20a%20special%20category%20of%20their%20own%20%E2%80%93%20a%20splurge%20treat%20that%20must%20be%20savoured%20in%20small%20nibbles%20and%20carefully%20dissected%20until%20its%20gooey%20cherry%20centre%20was%20finally%20revealed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%E2%80%99s%20been%20a%20long,%20long%20time%20since%20I%20last%20ran%20to%20the%20corner%20story%20for%20my%20candy%20bar%20fix,%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20guessing%20at%20least%2020%20years%20since%20I%20last%20ate%20a%20Cherry%20Blossom%20(see%20above%20re:%20yes,%20that%20old),%20but%20they%20still%20have%20a%20special%20place%20in%20my%20heart.%20Right%20next%20to%20the%20Garbage%20Pail%20Kids%20and%20the%20jelly%20shoes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20when%20I%20came%20up%20with%20this%20particular%20chocolate,%20almond%20and%20cherry%20granola%20concoction,%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20resist%20naming%20it%20after%20my%20beloved%20childhood%20treat,%20because%20it%20combines%20many%20of%20the%20same%20flavours.%20There%E2%80%99s%20sweet%20chocolate,%20crunchy%20nuts,%20and%20even%20those%20amazing%20cherries%20(albeit%20in%20dried%20format,%20since%20gooey%20candied%20cherries%20don%E2%80%99t%20exactly%20work%20all%20that%20well%20in%20granola).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20the%20best%20part%20is%20that%20the%20recipe%20makes%20a%20big%20batch,%20so%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20eat%20it%20in%20tiny%20nibbles%20to%20make%20sure%20it%20lasts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECherry%20Blossom%20Granola%20%20%20Author:%20Isabelle%20Boucher%20(Crumb)%20%20Recipe%20type:%20Breakfast%20%20%20Prep%20time:%20%2010%20mins%20%20Cook%20time:%20%2030%20mins%20%20Total%20time:%20%2040%20mins%20%20%20Serves:%2012%20%20%20%20This%20Chocolate%20Almond%20and%20Cherry%20Granola%20is%20inspired%20by%20the%20Cherry%20Blossom,%20a%20classic%20Canadian%20chocolate%20treat%20consisting%20of%20chocolate,%20peanut%20and%20coconut%20wrapped%20around%20a%20maraschino%20cherry%20centre.%20It's%20delicious%20sprinkled%20on%20top%20of%20yogurt,%20topped%20with%20a%20splash%20of%20milk,%20or%20just%20eaten%20by%20the%20handful%20straight%20from%20the%20jar.%20%20Ingredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3%20cups%20old-fashioned%20rolled%20oats%20%C2%BE%20cup%20dried%20cherries%20%C2%BD%20cup%20sliced%20almonds%20%C2%BC%20cup%20shredded%20unsweetened%20coconut%20%C2%BC%20cup%20cocoa%20nibs%20%C2%BD%20cup%20dark%20chocolate%20almond%20spread%20(see%20Note)%20%C2%BC%20cup%20honey%20%C2%BC%20cup%20butter%20%C2%BD%20cup%20semi-sweet%20chocolate%20chips%20%20%20Instructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20325F.%20Line%20a%20large%20baking%20sheet%20with%20parchment%20paper%20and%20set%20aside.%20In%20a%20large%20mixing%20combine,%20combine%20the%20oats,%20dried%20cherries,%20almonds,%20coconut%20and%20cocoa%20nibs.%20In%20a%20small%20saucepan%20set%20over%20medium%20heat,%20melt%20the%20chocolate%20spread,%20honey%20and%20butter%20until%20melted%20and%20pourable.%20Pour%20over%20the%20oats,%20and%20stir%20until%20everything%20is%20evenly%20combined.%20Spread%20evenly%20over%20prepared%20baking%20sheet.%20Bake%20for%2030%20minutes%20or%20until%20golden-brown%20and%20fragrant,%20stirring%20gently%20halfway%20through.%20Remove%20from%20the%20oven%20and%20let%20cool%20for%2010%20minutes,%20then%20break%20up%20into%20manageable%20chunks%20and%20sprinkle%20with%20chocolate%20chips.%20(The%20chocolate%20chips%20wi
