Are you a coffee person? So am I, I love tea too, but there are times when I prefer coffees over tea with no real reason. I love the ice cold coffee specially and I always make it rich by topping it with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. In the recent days, along with ice-cream I've started adding in coffee jellies too and it has been making my drink soooo delightful! And the best part is these jellies are homemade, gelatin free hence purely vegetarian or even more precisely vegan. I loaded my cup with them and it was exciting to drink and eat coffee at the same time. Those beautiful cubes actually added an element of interest and beauty to my glass which you can see at the end of this post. I've always loved working with agar-agar it has always been like a magic ingredient to me and its so easy to work with. When you make some mistake there's always a way to rectify it!!!! Unlike gelatin it sets well and quickly in room temperature and even stays stable for a long time. Also these are way healthier. Now, what's better than that? Try them yourselves and you'll know what I'm talking about. So here's how to make these super easy, lovely coffee jellies!!

INGREDIENTS

Makes 25 to 30 cubes of jellies

Total Preparation Time - 20 to 25 minutes

PREPARATION METHOD

Cut agar agar into smaller strips or pieces using scissors and wash well in water. Then squeeze off excess water.

Place a saucepan on flame and pour abut 350 ml of water into it. After it starts boiling add the coffee powder, sugar and stir. Wait until sugar dissolves, then remove from flame. (Taste a little of the coffee and adjust flavors as per your taste)

Pour remaining water (150 ml) into a saucepan and boil it well, add the agar agar strips into it and stir occasionally. The strips will start to dissolve after sometime.

After it dissolves completely pour it into the hot coffee decoction we've prepared. Stir well. (Just be patient the strips will dissolve completely)

Once done pour into moulds or into a wide pan and leave undisturbed until it gets set well. (you can optionally refrigerate, but it is not even necessary as agar agar jellies will get set perfectly in room temperature itself)

After it gets set well, remove from moulds and refrigerate or use in your milkshakes, drinks like cold coffee etc and enjoy!!!!!!

TIP 1: Agar agar is an easy to work with ingredient, so do not be reluctant to give it a try. If your jelly is too thick it means you've added too much agar agar. But you can rectify this. Just reheat the jellies and add more water/liquid and pour into moulds. That's all!

TIP 2: Refrigeration isn't really necessary as agar agar sets well in room temperature. But if you want to shorten the process you can use refrigeration.

TIP 3: You can do the same with any kind of coffee decoction.

TIP 4: You can add a hint of vanilla extract (essence) to the coffee decoction if you wish.

And here's my delicious glass of cold coffee topped with ice-cream and loaded with coffee jelly cubes!! Yummmmmmmmmmmm :)
