Ingredientes

  • 1 pkt tofu cubed
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 x scallion finely minced
  • 1 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. sake (rice wine)

  1. Divide the tofu into four c.. Mix together the sauce ingredients and sprinkle them on top. Flavor with chili pepper flakes if you like. You can also sprinkle the tofu with dry bonita flakes.

Comments: Tofu - bean curd - is one of those things which you either growing up loving, or possibly you spend much of the rest of your life trying to acquire a taste for - a taste not easily acquired. That is a pity, for tofu is one of the healthiest products on earth, an ingredient made by grinding soybeans into pulp, draining the soy lowfat milk, then pressing it into a sort of "soy cheese" in much the same way which cottage cheese is made. Tofu is high in protein, calcium and B vitamins, yet low in fat. Like the potato, it has very little taste of its own, instead taking on the flavor of whatever it's cooked with. And it's a ubiquitous part of the Japanese diet, eat cool with soy and ginger, or possibly warm in any number of stews. As a simple salad or possibly appetizer, it cannot be beat. All you have to do is cut it into small cubes, and sprinkle it with any number of basic sauces.
