Receta Cookbook Review: Sprinkles! Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts, Homemade Gingersnap Cookie Butter AND a GIVEAWAY!
by Renee@MKA

When Quirk Books contacted me and asked if I was interested in reviewing the cookbook, Sprinkles! Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts I couldn't imagine how there could be an entire cookbook devoted to sprinkles! I mean...sprinkles? Sure they are fun and whimsical...but a whole book??

Boy was I surprised when the book arrived. (Disclaimer: I received this cookbook for free to review from the publisher. The thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are entirely mine and I have not received payment for them.)

Sprinkles! Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts by Jackie Alpers is a delightful paperback book with 144 pages of wonderful recipes and recipe ideas, as well as a tutorial on sprinkles themselves. I mean, who knew there was a "World of Sprinkles", each kind with their own "personality" out there!? Jackie even shows you how to make your own sprinkles in this book! How fun is that??

With recipe titles such as Fairy Bread Sandwiches (pg. 39) , Malted Milk Ball Crispy Treats (pg. 47), and Orange Dreamsicle Cookies (pg. 91), you will want to check out this book for yourself! There are tons of gorgeous photos to compliment the recipes too!

I was most intrigued by a recipe for homemade Gingersnap Cookie Butter (pg. 42). You know, the kind like you can buy from Trader Joe's or the infamous Biscoff Spread...made at home...right in your own kitchen with minimal effort and adorned with gorgeous sprinkles! So I decided to try my hand at it.

You begin making the cookie butter by processing 16 small gingersnap cookies into a fine crumb. Make sure you buy gingersnaps you like, because they are the base of the cookie butter.

You then add 1 TBS brown sugar, 1 TBS cinnamon (or less, I'd do only 1 tsp next time I make it, the full TBS was a bit overwhelming for me), 1 tsp. vanilla extract, and a pinch of nutmeg, and while the food processor is running, drizzle in a TBS of vegetable oil (I used canola).

Then, with the blade running, you add just enough cool water to turn it into the consistency of peanut butter, about 1/3 to 1/2 cup. Put your cookie butter into a jar and layer with sprinkles of your choice! How fun and easy is that??

And this stuff is AH-mazing on fresh apple slices!! Oh my!
