- Soak bread crumbs in lowfat milk for 5 min in a large mixing bowl. Add in beef, pork, large eggs, onion, 1 1/2 teaspoon salt, allspice, nutmeg and cardamom. Mix well. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place on broiler pan and bake for 15 min at 400 degrees.Put browned meatballs in slow cooker. Add in 1/2 can beef consomme or possibly broth, pepper and remaining salt. Cover and cook on low 4-6 hrs (high 2-3 hrs).
- To thicken gravy, turn slow cooker to high. Put together butter and flour to make a smooth paste. Add in paste to remaining 1/2 can consomme and pour into slow cooker. Cook till thickened, about 45 min.
