Ingredientes

  • 1 1/2 c. (11 ounces) dry black beans Flavor Packet
  • 1 Tbsp. instant chopped onion
  • 1 Tbsp. chicken-broth granules
  • 1 tsp dry oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic pwdr
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 2 sm bay leaves Makes 6 c. soup

  1. Store precooked ingredients at room temperature; keeps indefinitely.
  2. Put beans into a 3- to 4 c. jar with tight-fitting lid. Put Flavor Packet ingredients into a sandwich-size plastic bag or possibly pouch made of plastic wrap. Seal or possibly tie with ribbon. Add in to peas or possibly tie onto jar.
  3. Cooking directions (attach to gift): Rinse and pick over beans. Put into a 4- to 5-qt heavy pot with 4 c. water. Cover, bring to a boil and boil 2 min.
  4. Remove from heat and let soak 1 hour. Drain and rinse beans. Return to pot. Add in 8 c. water and contents of Flavor Packet. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 2 1/2 hrs or possibly till beans are hard-tender. Uncover, increase heat to medium-low and simmer 25 to 30 min, stirring occasionally, till soup thickens slightly. To thicken more, mash some beans against the side of pot. Serve with lemon slices.
