Eating through a few Midwestern States

We recently got back from a multi-state odyssey. We traveled and ate through many states.
We only passed through St. Louis to spend the night on our way to Chicago, but we would love to go back and try some BBQ and blues! Next time, I hope. Right outside our hotel was a City Seeds Urban Farm. It was so impressive. I wish I had some pictures, but it was raining. That, however, did not daunt anyone working in the garden that early morning. Everyone had a raincoat on and looked eager to get to work. This sounds like a great program!

%20mosaics.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAn%20apt%20quote.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGuardian%20lions%20outside%20the%20Art%20Institute.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20were%20pleased%20to%20find%20so%20many%20favorites%20like%20Georgia%20O%E2%80%99Keefe%20and%20others.%20%20(And,%20thank%20you%20to%20the%20docent%20who%20told%20us%20to%20wait%20thirty%20minutes%20and%20come%20back%20at%205:00%20when%20it%20was%20free!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20we%20ate%20our%20way%20through%20Chicago,%20we%20hit%20the%20touristy%20places%20as%20well%20as%20stumbled%20upon%20some%20other%20gems.%20%20These%20are%20listed%20in%20no%20particular%20order.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20husband%20has%20a%20friend%20that%20ships%20in%20Lou%20Malnati%20pizzas%20every%20Christmas.%20%20%20I%20had%20to%20buy%20some%20of%20their%20signature%20canned%20tomatoes%20after%20we%20devoured%20a%20pie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20had%20some%20other%20friends%20who%20suggested%20the%20Billy%20Goat%20Tavern%20for%20its%20particular%20brand%20of%20ambiance.%20%20It%20was%20nice%20to%20see%20that%20the%20SNL%20fame%20hadn%E2%80%99t%20commercialized%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheezeborger!%20Cheezeborger!%20Cheezeborger!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWormhole:%20%20Loved%20the%20%E2%80%9Cback%20in%20time%20and%20stuff.%E2%80%9D%20%20Lots%20of%20stuff%20from%20our%20childhood.%20%20(Does%20it%20make%20me%20feel%20old%20or%20honored%20that%20these%20old%20toys%20are%20now%20revered%20and%20hip?)%20%20Great%20vibe%20and%20great%20coffee.%20%20(Not%20bad%20vegan%20muffins,%20either.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENorthside:%20%20We%20were%20just%20looking%20for%20a%20place%20to%20rest%20and%20relax%20for%20a%20bit%20after%20exploring%20%20Bucktown.%20%20The%20outdoor%20patio%20was%20perfect%20for%20people%20watching%20on%20a%20crisp%20afternoon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPiece%20Brewpbub:%20%20Cute%20name,%20%20great%20service,%20%20cold%20brews%20and%20good%20pie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHaymarket%20Pub:%20%20%20Do%20you%20see%20a%20theme%20here?%20%20Had%20a%20few%20beers%20(I%20liked%20the%204%20oz.%20size%20option)%20before%20we%20went%20to%20Girl%20and%20the%20Goat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGirl%20and%20the%20Goat:%20%20I%20usually%20have%20at%20least%20one%20destination%20dining%20establishment%20in%20mind%20when%20we%20travel.%20%20This%20time%20it%20was%20Stephanie%20Izard%E2%80%99s%20restaurant.%20%20(And,%20yes,%20I%20was%20influenced%20by%20her%20appearance%20on%20Top%20Chef.)%20%20It%20was%20packed%20but%20service%20was%20good.%20%20We%20tried%20the%20Chickpea%20Fritters%20first.%20%20Yummy,%20how%20can%20I%20make%20these?%20%20We%20also%20had%20the%20roasted%20cauliflower,%20sauteed%20green%20beans%20with%20a%20fish%20sauce%20vinaigrette,%20the%20sugo%20and%20the%20braised%20beef%20tongue.%20%20%20%20Another%20great%20meal%20from%20another%20great%20chef.%20%20(She%20was%20actually%20working%20the%20line.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOlivia%E2%80%99s%20Market:This%20is%20a%20regulation%20market.%20%20We%20saw%20many%20families%20doing%20their%20Friday%20afternoon%20shopping.%20%20I%20loved%20that%20the%20high-end,%20organic%20soup%20cans%20were%20placed%20right%20next%20to%20the%20Cambell%20soup.%20%20I%20wish%20I%20had%20Olivia%E2%80%99s%20next%20door%20to%20me%20at%20home.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECool%20and%20rainy%20morning%20at%20Lincoln%20Park.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFarmers%E2%80%99%20Market:%20%20Wherever%20we%20travel,%20if%20it%20is%20a%20Saturday,%20we%20find%20a%20Farmers%E2%80%99%20Market.%20%20We%20were%20able%20to%20hit%20the%20one%20in%20Lincoln%20Park%20before%20we%20left%20town.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGreat%20trip%20to%20Chicago%20and%20we%20are%20now%20dieting.%20%20We%20continued%20on%20our%20journey%20through%20Wisconsin%20and%20Minnesota%20to%20end%20up%20in%20northern%20Iowa%20for%20more%20great%20dining.%20%20Will%20share%20recipes%20from%20this%20trip%20soon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
