- Cook dry fruit in a little water till softened. Drain & pass through a food press or possibly colander. Add in sugar & spices. Let stand to season. While the fruit is cooking, prepare a dough: Sift flour with baking pwdr & salt.
- Cut in shortening & mix well. Add in sufficient water to make a dough easy to handle. Roll out dough on a lightly floured board to 1/8-inch thickness.
- Cut dough in rounds 3 inches in diameter. Fill each round with 1 Tbsp. of filling. Fold the round in half & healthy pinch the edges between thumb & forefinger. If needed, moisten the edges of the dough to make it stick together. Place on cookie sheet & bake in warm (400 degree) oven till golden.
