Receta Filipino Style Avocado and Milk in Ice
In where I lived in the Philippines even though we are in the metropolis area most of our and neighbours backyard have fruit bearing trees where you can just pick it up and have it for a snack. These trees are mangoes, jackfruit, cotton fruit (santol), muntingia (aratilis), coconuts, soursop (guyabano), papaya and avocadoes. I still remember those days, free fruits and they are very sweet and definitely fertilizer free. Every afternoon you will see housewives and grandparents sweep their background placing fallen leaves in one place near the tree, they then lit it up and let is smoke directing it towards the middle of the tree. Apparently this technique according to the elders makes the tree healthy bearing sweeter and better fruits which I sort of agree as the soursoup in front of us was always sweet and every summer it always bear a good amount of fruits for us to enjoy.
We don’t have avocado tree though but a nearby neighbour have one and when I walk and pass by their place I grab a couple or three for a snack. What I usually do is to place the avocado meat in a bowl, drizzle sugar and powdered milk on it then mash them, adding some cubed ice to make it cold. I then sit down and watch as I enjoy every scoop of it. It’s a very simple dessert / snack but definitely really good, it’s more like a chucky ice cream but a bit healthier.
