,%20but%20since%20our%20house%20is%20being%20repossessed%20at%20the%20moment%20and%20the%20landlord%20seems%20to%20have%20gone%20totally%20AWOL%20I've%20given%20up%20even%20thinking%20about%20it.%20But%20my%20new%20friend,%20nice%20though%20she%20is,%20wasn't%20the%20point.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20want%20to%20get%20my%20hair%20cut.%20Properly%20short.%20Every%20time%20I%20say%20that%20to%20people%20around%20me,%20they%20say,%20'So...you%20like%20girls%20now%20and%20need%20to%20have%20the%20hair%20to%20match?'%20Which%20kind%20of%20annoys%20me.%20Partly%20because%20it's%20true,%20and%20I%20hate%20to%20be%20so%20predictable.%20It's%20not%20that%20I%20want%20to%20conform%20with%20any%20stereotypes%20-%20exactly%20the%20opposite,%20out%20of%20pure%20contrariness*.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20been%20progressively%20getting%20my%20hair%20cut%20shorter%20for%20the%20last%20couple%20of%20years%20in%20any%20case,%20but%20it%20hasn't%20been%20exactly%20drastic.%20I'm%20annoyed%20with%20how%20tatty%20it%20looks%20when%20it's%20long.%20This%20picture%20by%20the%20the%20inimitable%20Mr%20Allsop%20is%20in%20many%20ways%20a%20really%20lovely%20picture.%20But%20my%20hair's%20a%20STATE.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20quite%20thin,%20though%20the%20curls%20means%20it%20doesn't%20necessarily%20look%20it.%20Partly%20it's%20that%20I%20just%20don't%20get%20it%20cut%20often%20enough%20and%20rats'%20tails%20is%20what%20happens%20to%20my%20hair%20if%20I%20don't%20get%20it%20cut%20enough.%20It%20breaks%20easily.%20It's%20shorter%20than%20that%20now,%20but%20it's%20still%20that%20wispy%20no%20matter%20what%20I%20do.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20thought%20is%20that%20cutting%20it%20short%20will%20help%20it%20seem%20less%20thin%20and%20pathetic.%20The%20curl%20means%20it%20shouldn't%20go%20flat%20and%20JUST%20ick.%20And%20if%20it%20does,%20I%20learnt%20about%20mousse.%20I%20might%20not%20be%20very%20girly,%20but%20I%20did%20figure%20that%20one%20about.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20is%20about%20coming%20out,%20somewhere%20along%20the%20line.%20Something%20about%20being%20different%20and%20making%20a%20statement.%20Same%20as%20the%20vague%20but%20fairly%20insistent%20desire%20for%20a%20tattoo,%20I%20think.%20'I%20have%20decided%20this,%20now%20let%20me%20show%20that%20it%20means%20something'.%20An%20acceptance.%20I'm%20WAY%20too%20shy%20for%20the%20tattoo.%20I'll%20look%20at%20pictures%20of%20them%20and%20think%20about%20it,%20but%20the%20actual%20walking%20into%20a%20shop%20and%20saying%20'draw%20this%20on%20my%20skin'%20is%20too%20much%20involvement%20from%20someone%20else.%20Getting%20my%20hair%20cut%20is%20pretty%20ordinary,%20though.%20I'd%20shave%20my%20head,%20except%20I'd%20get%20more%20questions.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20think%20I%20want%20something%20like%20the%20same%20length%20all%20over,%20about%202-3%20inches,%20to%20give%20it%20space%20to%20curl.%20I%20don't%20know.%20I%20might%20just%20go%20for%20more%20short%20and%20quite%20layered.%20Don't%20know.%20It'll%20probably%20wait%20for%20a%20while%20until%20I%20actually%20leave%20Baker%20Richards%20(at%20the%20end%20of%20October...crazy...).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E...thoughts%20on%20the%20hair%20style,%20anyone?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*True%20story:%20I%20vividly%20remember%20being%20in%20year%202%20(I%20called%20it%20J3%20back%20then,%20and%20I%20was%206%20going%20on%207,%20for%20any%20foreigners)%20at%20school%20and%20being%20asked%20to%20make%20something%20that%20measured%20wind%20direction.%20I%20can't%20even%20remember%20now%20what%20everyone%20else%20made%20-%20something%20with%20paddles,%20I'm%20pretty%20sure%20-%20but%20I%20very%20deliberately%20didn't%20go%20with%20what%20was%20the%20only%20really%20sensible%20idea%20given%20the%20materials%20we%20had%20because%20I%20wanted%20to%20be%20'different',%20and%20failed%20the%20test%20totally.%20I%20remember%20reading%20the%20comments%20my%20teacher%20was%20writing%20down%20over%20her%20shoulder.%20Being%20Contrary%20Is%20Not%20Always%20The%20Answer.%20It's%20amazing%20how%20often%20I've%20failed%20to%20take%20note%20of%20this%20since%20then.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
