%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20ordered%20a%20few%20things%20from%20the%20catering%20department%20of%20our%20grocery%20store.%20I%20had%20a%20few%20generous%20friends%20supply%20some%20sides%20and%20desserts.%20And%20I%20made%20two%20hot%20side%20dishes:%20homemade%20mac%20&%20cheese%20and%20red%20beans%20&%20rice.%20I%20have%20a%20secret%20to%20admit,%20I%20was%20so%20excited%20to%20get%20to%20make%20the%20red%20beans%20&%20rice.%20My%20family%20aren%E2%80%99t%20huge%20bean%20eaters%20so%20I%E2%80%99ve%20only%20made%20this%20once%20before%20when%20we%20were%20having%20people%20over.%20I%20love%20this%20recipe%20but%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20about%20to%20make%20an%20entire%20crock%20pot%20full%20when%20I%E2%80%99m%20the%20only%20one%20who%20will%20eat%20it%20(well,%20I%20think%20J%20would%20help%20me%20out%20but%20he%E2%80%99s%20the%20only%20one).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20fills%20an%208%20quart%20crock%20pot%20so%20it%E2%80%99s%20definitely%20intended%20to%20feed%20a%20crowd%20%E2%80%93%20I%20think%20it%20would%20be%20great%20for%20a%20tailgate.%20And%20it%E2%80%99s%20good%20enough%20that%20I%20was%20asked%20for%20the%20recipe%20multiple%20times%20and%20only%20had%20two%20servings%20left%20over%20at%20the%20end%20of%20the%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Place%20ham%20hocks%20in%20the%20crock%20pot.%20Drain%20the%20beans%20and%20add%20them%20plus%20all%20ingredients%20except%20the%20rice%20to%20the%20crock%20pot.%20Cook%20on%20HIGH%20for%207%20hours.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20About%2030%20minutes%20before%20you%20want%20to%20eat,%20put%20some%20water%20on%20for%20your%20rice%20and%20cook%20according%20to%20package%20directions.%20Remove%20the%20bay%20leaves%20&%20ham%20hocks%20(they%20will%20be%20breaking%20apart%20and%20you%20could%20chop%20up%20their%20meat%20and%20add%20it%20back%20in%20if%20you%E2%80%99d%20like,%20I%20don%E2%80%99t).%20Mash%20some%20of%20the%20beans%20against%20the%20side%20of%20the%20crock%20pot.%20Stir%20in%20the%20rice%20and%20let%20sit%20in%20the%20crock%20pot%20on%20warm%20for%20about%2030%20minutes%20so%20the%20rice%20soaks%20up%20the%20juices.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20can%20sit%20in%20the%20crock%20pot%20for%20hours%20on%20warm%20and%20stay%20good.%20It%20also%20makes%20excellent%20leftovers.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
