Receta FPP Time!
This is only my second month to participate in Foodie Pen Pals, but I started watching the mailbox constantly starting July 17. Where was that box? (Have I ever mentioned that patience is not one of my virtues?)
If I could segue a bit here…. As a child, I remember checking the mailbox everyday during the summers, anxiously awaiting my Weekly Reader or the kids version of National Geographic or a letter from a pen pal. (What can I say, we were bored in the summer and we lived in the sticks.)
I had this same feeling this month awaiting my FPP care package!
I received a great parcel from Danielle, a fellow Okie! How cool is that?. Danielle included this note:
I hope this box finds you in good health and happy spirits! I did a little research over at your blog and discovered your love for all things fresh and local, so I did my best to accommodate to your taste and lifestyle.
Danielle included a homegrown zucchini, homegrown orange peppers, homegrown banana peppers and okra, a package of walnut and cranberry omega health mix, and sundried tomato dip. She also included “Crack Pretzels.” (Yes, you read that right.) Danielle says that you can also call them “spicy pretzels,” but the name crack is appropriate “because they’re so darn addictive!”
She was kind enough to include the recipe as well which I will share with you here:
- Crack Pretzels
- 1 bag pretzels
- Ranch seasoning packet
- 1/2 c. oil
- 1 1/2 t. cayenne
- 1 t. garlic powder
- 1 t. lemon pepper seasoning
Put all ingredients in a bag and SHAKE!!!!
Danielle says that she makes them the night before so the flavors can fully saturate.
What a great box of home grown local goodies. Since most everything was garden fresh, I decided to place it all in my garden trug to photograph it!
My care package!
Thanks, Danielle. The okra was thrown in with some of our own and frozen for frying this winter. The peppers will be added to the pile for Pepper-palooza, the zucchini will get shredded and frozen for bread or muffins later on, and I can’t wait to try the nuts and the dip mix. The pretzels were gone in a day!
My sendee FPP this month was Tiffany from Texas. I went with my Made In Oklahoma theme again this month and sent Tiffany a box full of products from Griffin’s like pancake mix, biscuit mix, muffin mix, apricot jam, butter-pecan syrup and cinnamon roll syrup. I also found some fry bread mix made in Pawhuska from Red Corn Native Foods and if you’ve ever had fry bread you know that you must have some honey on it so I threw in a small bear-bottle of the local stuff. Tiffany should be set for breakfast at least!
Now, don’t you wanna join in the fun?! Here are the Foodie Penpals details:
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
And a big thanks to Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean for thinking up FPP and organizing ALL the participants. Pleas check out her site.
