French Toast Breakfast Bake
INGREDIENTS:
2 large french breads, cut on the diagonal about 3/4 ” thick. Lay them in a well buttered 9 x 13 baking dish, shingle-style sort of standing up.
custard filling:
- 9 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups cream
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- pinch of salt
DIRECTIONS:
Mix this all together in a mixing bowl and pour over the bread, making sure it goes between every slice. Cover and refrigerate over night.
Top with the Praline Sauce: (you can make this up the day ahead as well, just heat it up before cooking)
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 pound butter
Heat all the ingredients in a pan to dissolve the sugar. Pour over the bread, getting some between each slice. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 1 hour. Top with Maple Syrup.
