%20Do%20I%20celebrate%20the%20Chinese%20New%20Year?%20Nah,%20not%20by%20myself.%20I%20used%20to%20when%20I%20was%20with%20my%20parents%20back%20in%20my%20hometown.%20My%20family%20is%20Vietnamese%20and%20we%20have%20a%20similar%20culture%20to%20Chinese.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20I've%20moved%20here%20and%20lived%20without%20my%20family,%20I%20don't%20celebrate%20the%20Chinese%20New%20Year%20any%20more.%20It's%20fading%20away%20from%20my%20memory.%20I%20hardly%20remember%20what%20I'm%20supposed%20to%20do%20on%20this%20day.%20Good%20that%20I%20have%20Chinese%20friends!%20They%20have%20told%20me%20about%20it.%20My%20memory%20is%20gradually%20coming%20back.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20recall%20the%20other%20night%20I%20talked%20to%20my%20mom%20and%20she%20asked%20me%20my%20husband's%20and%20my%20birthday%20so%20that%20she%20could%20write%20it%20on%20some%20paper%20and%20pray.%20Oh%20mommy...Not%20only%20does%20this%20story%20come%20back%20to%20mind,%20but%20also%20other%20stories%20such%20as%20collecting%20fortune%20bushes/flowers,%20fire%20crackers,%20praying%20at%20midnight,%20all%20kind%20of%20fortune%20food,%20and%20red%20envelopes!%20For%20some%20of%20you%20who%20don't%20know%20we%20put%20money%20in%20a%20red%20envelope%20and%20give%20it%20to%20the%20young%20generation.%20If%20you%20are%20old%20enough%20and%20make%20money%20on%20your%20own,%20you%20give%20it%20out.%20That%20was%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20parts%20when%20I%20was%20young%20:-)%20Chinese%20people%20usually%20make%20a%20whole%20steamed%20chicken,%20head%20and%20all,%20to%20represent%20good%20health.%20I'm%20going%20to%20deviate%20the%20rule%20by%20making%20deep%20fried%20only%20wings%20and%20drumsticks!%20please%20please%20still%20bring%20me%20good%20health%20for%202010..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMommy%20Fried%20Chicken%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe%20courtesy%20of%20my%20mother..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYield:%202-3%20people%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20chicken%20in%20a%20big%20bowl%20or%20ziploc%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20oyster%20sauce,%20soy%20sauce,%20chopped%20garlic,%20sugar,%20peppers,%20and%20a%20splash%20of%20siracha%20on%20the%20chicken%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20well.%20Marinate%20it%20for%20at%20least%201%20hr.%20You%20can%20leave%20it%20overnight%20in%20a%20fridge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20up%20the%20oil%20to%20375%20degrees%20F.%20If%20you%20have%20a%20digital%20deep%20fry%20and%20plan%20to%20fry%20a%20lot%20of%20chicken,%20then%20please%20do%20use%20it.%20It's%20worth%20of%20the%20oil%20use!%20If%20not,%20deep%20bottom%20pot%20works%20just%20fine%20without%20wasting%20too%20much%20oil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20meantime,%20prepare%20a%20tray/plate%20with%20paper%20towel%20on%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20chicken%20about%204%20pieces%20at%20a%20time%20depending%20on%20how%20big%20you%20pot%20is.%20Don't%20crowd%20the%20chicken%20otherwise%20they%20will%20stick%20to%20one%20another.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDeep%20fry%20it%20for%20about%2015%20mins%20till%20golden%20brown%20and%20crispy%20at%20skin.%20Don't%20forget%20to%20turn%20the%20chicken.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20fried%20chicken%20on%20prepared%20paper%20towel%20to%20absorb%20exceeded%20oil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScoop%20out%20garlic%20by%20a%20strainer%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESeason%20the%20chicken.%20Note%20to%20self:%20This%20bowl%20isn't%20photogenic%20at%20all..I'd%20better%20change%20to%20different%20pattern..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMarinate%20it%20for%20at%20least%201%20hr%20in%20a%20fridge%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGet%20the%20oil%20ready%20and%20prepare%20a%20tray%20with%20paper%20towel%20on%20the%20side%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20chicken%20are%20in%20a%20hot%20tub!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20they%20are%20done,%20transfer%20them%20to%20a%20prepared%20tray.%20Use%20a%20strainer%20to%20strain%20garlic%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20them%20on%20a%20plate%20with%20fried%20garlic%20on%20top.%20If%20you%20like%20garlic,%20fried%20garlic%20is%20the%20best%20part!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHappy%20Chinese%20Lunar%20New%20Year%20and%20Valentine's%20day%20everyone!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
