Receta Fried Jam Pies
by Midnight Baker

Fried Jam PiesWith the holiday baking season upon us, you're sure to have some leftover pie crust dough--here's one way to use it!

Don't throw those leftover pie scraps away!

I know you'll have some left over this holiday season--as well as maybe having a spare refrigerated pie crust.

That's exactly what happened to me. I had a refrigerated crust left over and sitting in my fridge for a while. Last pie I made was a single-crust one and they always come packed in boxes of two.

Uses scraps and what you have on handI got really tired of looking at that box and wanted to use it, but I didn't want to make another pie...at least not YET.

I wanted to fry them since I've seen handpies on Pinterest lately that are fried. I think this is a big southern thing, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, anything fried ALWAYS tastes better...so that's what I did.

The results were awesome. These are delicious and they use something you'd probably throw away and something you already have in your fridge and cupboard.

I used raspberry jam because it was the first jam I laid my hands on in my fridge. I guess pie filling would work too...and if you have any left over, give it a go!

Fried Jam Pies 1-2 refrigerated ready-made pie crust -OR- pie crust scraps

Unroll refrigerated pie crusts. If using scraps, roll out to about 1/8-inch thickness.

Use a 3-inch diameter round cookie cutter (or glass or jar lid of same size) to cut circles of crust. Gather scraps, roll out again, repeat the cutting.

Heat about 1/2-inch of oil in a heavy skillet to 350 degrees F. Oil will shimmer when it gets to the right frying temperature.

Place about 1 teaspoon of jam in the center of each circle. Wet finger with water and dampen the outside rim of each cut circle. Fold crust over, making a half-moon shape. Seal edges with a fork.

Place pies in hot oil (don't overcrowd them in pan--fry in batches if necessary). Fry each side about 1 minute, or until golden brown.

Remove from pan and drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Cool completely.

Dust with powdered sugar and serve.

NOTE: I got 8 "pies" out of 1 refrigerated pie crust.
