This New Years Eve, we did what we've been doing for the last several years here in Sonoma, we threw a dinner/birthday(for Alan)/ New Years party. We starting doing this after the last time we went out for a New Years Eve dinner here in town with a whole bunch of people. We chose the late seating so as to be in a prime spot for all the New Years festivities. Bring out the champagne and paper hats! Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war! Party down! Hardly. /%20New%20Years%20party.%20We%20starting%20doing%20this%20after%20the%20last%20time%20we%20went%20out%20for%20a%20New%20Years%20Eve%20dinner%20here%20in%20town%20with%20a%20whole%20bunch%20of%20people.%20We%20chose%20the%20late%20seating%20so%20as%20to%20be%20in%20a%20prime%20spot%20for%20all%20the%20New%20Years%20festivities.%20Bring%20out%20the%20champagne%20and%20paper%20hats!%20Cry%20havoc%20and%20let%20slip%20the%20dogs%20of%20war!%20%20Party%20down!%20%20Hardly.%20By%20the%20time%2011:30%20%20rolled%20around,%20it%20was%20like%20one%20of%20those%20old%20episodes%20they%20run%20on%20the%20Twilight%20Zone%20New%20Years%20Day%20Marathon.%20The%20place%20was%20deserted%20except%20for%20our%20table.%20The%20only%20thing%20maissing%20was%20Burgess%20Meridith%20in%20Coke%20bottle%20thick%20glasses.%20We%20were%20the%20only%20ones%20left%20and%20the%20waiter%20was%20serving%20us%20coffee%20with%20his%20coat%20on.%20Hint%20hint.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20stepped%20out%20onto%20a%20foggy,%20drippy,%20deserted%20street.%20Where%20was%20the%20party?%20Everyone%20headed%20for%20our%20house%20where%20fortunately%20there%20is%20always%20champagne%20on%20ice.%20After%20that%20experience%20we%20got%20paranoid%20about%20going%20out%20for%20New%20Years%20Eve%20in%20Sonoma.%20We%20wanted%20to%20make%20sure%20we%20would%20be%20UP!%20With%20other%20live%20people.%20%20The%20way%20we%20figured%20it,%20if%20you%20build%20them%20they%20will%20come.%20So%20we%20started%20having%20New%20Years%20Eve%20parties.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20year,%20since%20we%20were%20inviting%20a%20couple%20of%20friends%20who%20hadn't%20been%20over%20before,%20and%20one%20of%20them%20(Terri)%20is%20gluten%20intolerant,%20I%20needed%20to%20take%20that%20into%20account.%20%20While%20wandering%20through%20the%20baking%20section%20of%20Whole%20Foods%20Sonoma%20I%20noticed%20that%20King%20Arthur%20Flour,%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20brands,%20had%20come%20out%20with%20a%20gluten%20free%20alternative.%20Great%20I%20thought,%20just%20the%20ticket%20for%20Terri.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20planing%20on%20baking%20buttermilk%20biscuits,%20and%20then%20since%20I%20love%20a%20challenge,%20I%20thought%20why%20not%20bake%20some%20with%20regular%20flour%20too%20and%20then%20I%20can%20do%20a%20blind%20taste%20test%20just%20like%20on%20the%20teeevee%20machine.%20But%20then%20I%20thought%20how%20do%20I%20do%20that?%20How%20can%20I%20make%20sure%20that%20Terri%20only%20gets%20the%20GF%20biscuits%20without%20getting%20the%20other%20kind%20by%20mistake?%20And%20how%20do%20I%20stop%20everyone%20else%20from%20eating%20all%20of%20Terri's%20%22special%20biscuits%22%20in%20case%20they%20turn%20out%20super%20great?!%20Well,%20fate%20and%20germs%20intervened.%20About%202%20hours%20before%20the%20dinner%20I%20got%20a%20text%20message%20that%20Terri's%20husband%20was%20down%20with%20the%20flu%20and%20so%20they%20would%20not%20be%20joining%20us.%20Okay%20then%20I%20thought.%20I%20can%20do%20a%20real%20blind%20taste%20test%20and%20nobody%20gets%20hurt.%20So%20I%20did.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGluten%20Free%20Buttermilk%20Biscuits%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20made%20%20my%20regular%20buttermilk%20biscuits%20recipe%20HERE.%20And%20I%20made%20a%20batch%20using%20the%20King%20Arthur%20Gluten%20Free%20Flour.%20Same%20recipe%20with%20one%20exception.%20I%20added%203/4%20tsp%20of%20Xanthan%20gum%20to%20the%20dry%20ingredients.%20See%20the%20results%20below.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20did%20the%20taste%20test%20work%20out?%20Well,%20no%20one%20at%20our%20party%20was%20gluten%20intolerant,%20they%20don't%20have%20to%20avoid%20gluten,%20and%20they%20LOVED%20the%20GF%20biscuits!%20In%20fact%20they%20fell%20on%20them%20so%20hard%20I%20had%20to%20fight%20to%20%20save%20two%20of%20them%20for%20photographic%20purposes%20the%20next%20day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENo%20graininess%20no%20chalkiness,%20no%20grittiness,%20none%20of%20the%20other%20stuff%20that%20GF%20people%20complain%20of.%20Just%20tender%20and%20flaky%20deliciousness.%20No%20longer%20do%20the%20gluten%20free%20diners%20at%20your%20table%20need%20to%20feel%20deprived.%20This%20stuff%20works!%20%20So%20there%20you%20have%20it,%20%20King%20Arthur%20Gluten%20Free%20Flour%20has%20got%20a%20great%20all%20purpose%20blend!%20I'm%20glad%20I%20bought%20it%20and%20I'll%20be%20buying%20it%20again.%20Just%20remember%20to%20use%20a%20bit%20of%20xanthan%20gum%20in%20the%20mix%20and%20you're%20in%20business.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EComing%20up%20next,%20I%20go%20all%20vegan%20and%20wild%20'shrooms%20when%20cousins%20from%20Italy%20send%20a%20surprise%20package.%20Follow%20along%20on%20Twitter%20@kathygori.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
