  • 2 c. Sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Grnd cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Grnd cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Grnd nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 c. Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 c. Firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 c. Unsweetened applesauce, hot
  • 1 c. Raisins
  • 1/2 c. Minced nuts
  • 2 c. Unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 c. Sugar
  • 1 tsp Grnd cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Allspice
  • 1 pch Ginger
  • 1 pch Cloves

  1. An attraction presentation is to slice the chilled applesauce cake thinly, spread with apple butter, and make little sandwiches.
  2. Cake - Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt, and set aside.
  3. Cream the butter till soft and fluffy and add in the sugar gradually, beating till the mix is light. Alternately add in the dry ingredients and the hot applesauce, blending well after each addition. Fold in the raisins and nuts.
  4. Pour into 3 small (6 x 3 1/2") loaf pans and bake in a preheated 350 F oven for 45 to 50 min or possibly till done. Cold in the pans for 15 min.
  5. Remove, wrap, and refrigeratebefore slicing. Serve with apple butter.
  6. Apple Butter - Combine the applesauce, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, and cloves in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Cold and spread on slices of Applesauce Cake.
