- In a large saucepan, combine the lentils and water and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 25 min, stirring occasionally. Add in the bulgur, salt, and pepper and cook till the lentils are tender, 15-20 min, stirring occasionally. (Add in a little warm water if necessary.)
- In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add in the onion and cook, stirring, till the onion slivers are browned, 7-10 min. Stir the onions into the pot of lentils and bulgur.
- Serve the grains with pita bread and a tossed salad.
- NOTES : When cooked together, lentils and bulgur are a nutritious duo. They are often paired into a simple, family-style meal, as in this Middle Eastern dish.
