Receta Grilled Potato and Onion Salad; Yummly
by Katie Zeller

Do you still have your grill out?

This is an easy side dish, with just a hint of sharpness from the mustard.

If you can get large, sweet onions, like Vidalia, they would be great here.

I used 2 red onions because that is what I had in my garden…. And I’ve rarely seen sweet onions here.

A grill basket is best – we used the same basket that we use for hamburgers. If you don’t have a basket, use a mat or grill pan. They get very light and very crisp… and delicious!

Grilled Potato and Onion Salad

Total time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Put sugar, vinegar, mustard, oil into a bowl and mix well.

Brush or spoon mixture onto both sides of the potatoes and onions.

Lay them flat in a hinged grill basket or grill pan.

If using a basket grill 10 – 15 minutes per side, or until done, part of the time over direct heat.

If using a grill pan start over direct heat for about 10 minutes, turning after 5. Then move to indirect heat for 10 – 15 minutes, or until vegetables are tender and nicely browned.

Remove and serve.

Note: Could be roasted in 425F (210C) oven for 30 minutes, turning once.

The above is an older photo, taken when our grill was working properly.

This is how it looks with the new lava rocks:

They are NOT burnt, just covered in smoke.

We have since removed the lava rocks and, next spring, we’ll be getting a new grill.

Are you familiar with Yummly?

To be honest, I received the notice about them awhile back and ignored it.

Sometimes, they even bother to find my name instead of addressing them ‘Dear thymeforcookingblog’.

I digress….

I noticed that one of my posts was getting a lot of hits the other day…. A LOT of hits.

I decided to investigate.

Someone had ‘yum’d’ it.

Hmmmmm……

Self, I said, this requires further research.

I’ve been on Pinterest for years, which is fun, but the Pins are everything in the world that anyone in the world might be interested in.

Which is why it’s fun.

Yummly is just recipes.

I have been, and still am, on other recipe sites. Most of them require effort to add a recipe. One has to ‘describe’ it or ‘categorize’ it or manipulate the photo or all of that.

Yummly is simple…. Click the ‘Yum’ button and that’s it! (You can see it in my sidebar – orange with a the word ‘Yum’ in it. It’s also at the bottom of the posts).

I like simple. I’m always in a rush and simple is, well, simple.

I also like the layout of the recipes in the ‘recipe box’ and the search is both easy and specific.

If you’re looking for an on-line recipe box, check out Yummly. Here’s my page for you to see: Thyme for Cooking. Remember I’ve just started using it….

(And no, I’m not getting compensated for talking about them.)

On a totally unrelated note I give you the twice-daily Cow Parade:

The cows have a big pasture with barns on either side. Every day the boss cow (I assume) decides to go from one side of the field to the other. All the other cows line up behind and there is a parade that runs the length of the field.

Well, the babies sometimes (usually) get out of line and run around playing like puppies.

It’s one of those things that makes me stop whatever I’m doing and just watch…..

I wonder why they do it? There’s no reward or food or anything. They just get to wherever the boss cow leads, then lie down.

Nature….
