Receta Halloween Brownies and a Horror Story
by Eliot

All I wanted to do was to make some Halloween brownies.

I even had a good plan.

One of my most popular posts has been one of my SRC reveals: White Chocolate Oreo Brownies. It seemed a no-brainer then to make these with orange and black Halloween oreos. Since that SRC reveal, I have made them a bunch of times. Easy, peasy!

Well, guess who had snacked on all the Halloween oreos? That’s right, my husband.

A goblin ate all the oreos.

Off to the store I went to buy more oreos.

As I melted the white chocolate and butter on the stove, it dawned on me that I was out of flour.

Off to the store I went to buy flour.

While mixing them up, I used the last of the vanilla. So much for the other brownies I wanted to make.

Off to the store I went to buy vanilla.

Then, (and I am not making this up) I started typing out my brownie recipe here before I actually made them. It dawned on my I was out of baking powder.

Off to the store I went to buy baking powder.

Luckily, the grocery store is only 1/2 a mile away. I should have walked this distance every trip. I wouldn’t have to go to yoga this week!

Finally, both brownies got made. What a scary time in my kitchen! My head was definitely spinning around. (But luckily no pea soup was spewing forth!)

For the other set of brownies, I wanted to experiment with my new favorite snack for Halloween: Peanuts and Candy Corn. I hated candy corn until I threw these together. (I saw this mix referred to on someone else’s blog; so, if that was you, I apologize.) Mix these two treats together and it tastes just like a Payday candy bar. And, one serving should only have 2 grams of fat.

Did you know each year Americans consume enough Brach's Candy Corn that if laid end-to-end, would circle the world 4.25 times? That is a scary piece of data!

So I thought I would make my all-time favorite chocolate brownie and mix in some peanuts and candy corn.

Halloween Ooey-Gooey Brownies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Stir sugar and vanilla into melted butter. Add eggs one at a time, beating well with a spoon after each addition. Add cocoa; stir until blended. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in candy corn and peanuts. Pour in a prepared foil-lined 13 x 2 x 9 inch baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until they slightly pull away from side of pan. Let cool completely before cutting.

The Oreo brownies came out great as usual.

These are awesome

The experimental brownies—-the verdict is still out. They definitely are ooey-gooey as the candy corn melted into the brownies for a caramely consistency.

Happy Halloween!

Wishing everyone safe and fun trick or treating!

Note: Sorry about the pics. I had a whole Halloween tableau set up but we worked outside all day yesterday (it was boo-tiful), grilled outside and didn’t come in until after sun down. I basically threw the brownies on a plate and snapped a shot.
