Ingredientes

  • 1 c. instant grits
  • 1 1/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. grated sharp cheddar cheese - (abt 4 ounce)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 c. diced smoked ham - (abt 3 ounce)
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper Salt to taste Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste
  • 2 lrg Large eggs

Direcciones

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Butter 4- to 6-c. souffle dish or possibly casserole.
  2. Place grits in large bowl; whisk in 1 1/4 c. boiling water. Add in cheese and butter; whisk till melted. Whisk in smoked ham and cayenne pepper. Season with salt and pepper. Fold in Large eggs.
  3. Pour batter into prepared dish. Bake spoon bread till set at edges but barely set in center, about 18 min.
  4. Comments: For accompaniments, toss watercress and thin slices of red onion with Dijon vinaigrette, and add in minced fresh basil to stewed tomatoes. Pecan pie can top it off.
