Last Sunday, The Husband and I attend the Hartford Sängerbund Bierfest in Newington. While this was the first we'd heard of the event, it's been going on since 1984 ... which meant it must be good. And it was!
Admission was $10 per adult and food tickets were $1 each. We bought $30 worth of tickets, which allowed us to buy various Würste and Leberkäse, water, and ice cream (we were one ticket short for the ice cream, but that was the one stand that actually accepted tickets and dollars). Each food group was sold from its own tent, so there was a wurst line (heh), potato pancake line, and beer line ... but the lines quickly moved along as the Sängerbund folk clearly know what they're about.

.%20Each%20food%20group%20was%20sold%20from%20its%20own%20tent,%20so%20there%20was%20a%20wurst%20line%20(heh),%20potato%20pancake%20line,%20and%20beer%20line%20...%20but%20the%20lines%20quickly%20moved%20along%20as%20the%20S%C3%A4ngerbund%20folk%20clearly%20know%20what%20they're%20about.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELeberk%C3%A4se%20with%20sauerkraut,%20tangy%20potato%20salad,%20sliced%20tomatoes,%20and%20spicy%20mustard.Currywurst.%20A%20little%20disappointing%20as%20it%20was%20only%20steamed%20(should%20be%20steamed,%20then%20fried%20for%20extra%20awesome).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Kaffeestube,%20tucked%20away%20in%20a%20corner%20on%20the%20way%20to%20the%20toilets,%20sold%20cakes%20and%20coffee%20(obviously),%20but%20none%20were%20to%20The%20Husband's%20liking%20as%20they%20all%20contained%20%22horrible%22%20ingredients%20like%20apples%20or%20coconut%20or%20poppy%20seeds.%20He%20did%20enjoy%20the%20ice%20cream,%20however,%20and%20even%20admitted%20my%20lager-flavored%20selection%20was%20%22pretty%20good,%20if%20you%20like%20beer.%22%20Made%20with%20Sam%20Adams%20Boston%20Lager,%20it%20was%20well%20worth%20four%20tickets.O,%20delicious%20lager%20ice%20cream!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20was%20plenty%20of%20seating,%20both%20inside%20and%20outside%20the%20music%20tent,%20which%20was%20a%20very%20good%20thing%20as%20the%20music%20was%20too%20loud%20for%20my%20delicate%20ears%20and%20we%20ended%20up%20enjoying%20our%20ice%20cream%20outside%20in%20the%20shade%20were%20there%20was%20a%20gentle%20breeze%20to%20cool%20us%20and%20the%20music%20was%20at%20the%20%22correct%22%20volume.%20Music%20was%20provided%20by%20the%20Hornberg%20Musikanten,%20a%20Bavarian%20brass%20band%20from%20the%20German%20Federal%20State%20of%20Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg.%20They%20certainly%20played%20with%20gusto%20and%20the%20couples%20on%20the%20dance%20floor%20seemed%20quite%20enthusiastic,%20too.%20My%20dad's%20mom%20loved%20to%20dance%20and%20I%20think%20she%20would%20have%20loved%20the%20band.%20Definitely%20her%20scene!Flags%20of%20some%20of%20the%20sixteen%20German%20L%C3%A4nder.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Hartford%20S%C3%A4ngerbund%20Bierfest%20is%20a%20biennial%20event%20so,%20unfortunately,%20we%20won't%20see%20it's%20like%20again%20until%202016.%20However,%20the%20Hartford%20S%C3%A4ngerbund%20offers%20regularly%20scheduled%20events%20throughout%20the%20year,%20including%20a%20Schlachtfest%20on%201%20November.%20There%20will%20be%20a%20variety%20of%20wurst,%20including%20Blutwurst%20(blood%20sausage).%20I%20really%20enjoy%20black%20pudding%20and%20thus%20am%20quite%20excited%20to%20try%20Blutwurst.%20The%20Schlachtfest%20is%20a%20mere%20four%20days%20before%20my%20birthday,%20so%20it%20seems%20a%20perfect%20early%20birthday%20present!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
