Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp Scampi is a shrimp dish marinated in olive oil, fresh chopped garlic and lemon butter drizzled with a garlic lemon butter and caramelized chunks of tasty garlic, a Hawaiian classic that is a must try when you visit this beautiful island. This island dish was popularized by Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck at Kahuku located in the North Shore of Oahu Island. A dish that started with humble beginnings from a converted 1953 bread truck parking along the Kamehameha Highway up to what is now an iconic and multi awarded dish known to locals as well as people who visited Hawaii. Now they own the land where the parked their food truck and have a set up its own building. While I have visited Hawaii a couple of years ago and it will be on the top of my to visit list again, seafood was amazing and the place is just so lively, not to mention food like this. Now I am missing this dish so for today we will be making them home and you will be surprised how easy they are, in 15 minutes you will have a very delicious dish which I suggest eating them with your hands and without utensils at all.Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp Scampi Save PrintPrep time Cook time Total time Serves: 3Ingredients500 g shrimps, shell-on and tail-on, heads removed½ tbsp flour¼ tsp cayenne pepper50 g butter1½ tablespoon olive oil6 cloves garlic, minced2 tbsp white wine¼ teaspoon sugar1 tsp fish saucejuice from ½ lemonfreshly ground black peppersalttoasted garlic, to garnishInstructionsIn a bowl combine together flour and the cayenne pepper, add in the shrimp and toss to coat.In a pan add the butter and once melted mix in the olive oil, in low heat sauté the garlic until aromatic.Add the shrimps together with the white wine, fish sauce, salt and sugar, cook for 5 minutes in high heat while tossing or until shrimps are cooked through.Turn heat off then drizzle lemon juice on top and season with a generous amount freshly ground black pepper.
